James Gordon Brown is a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Labour Party from 2007 to 2010. He previously served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in Tony Blair's government from 1997 to 2007,and was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1983 to 2015,first for Dunfermline East and later for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath. Eve Cordelia Johnstone CBE FRCP FRCPE FRCPGla FRCPsych FMedSci FRSE is a Scottish physician,clinical researcher,psychiatrist and academic. Her main research area is in the field of schizophrenia and psychotic illness. She is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Assistant Principal for Mental Health Research Development and Public Understanding of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. She is best known for her 1976 groundbreaking study that showed brain abnormalities in schizophrenic patients compared to a control group.
Nicola Joy Nadia Benedetti is an Italian-Scottish classical solo violinist and festival director. Her ability was recognised when she was a child,including the award of BBC Young Musician of the Year when she was 16. She works with orchestras in Europe and America as well as with Alexei Grynyuk,her regular pianist. Since 2012,she has played the Gariel Stradivarius violin. She became the first woman and first Scottish person to lead the Edinburgh International Festival when she was made Festival Director on 1 October 2022.
Dame Deirdre Mary Hutton,is a British public servant,termed by the British media as "Queen of the Quangos" and "The great quango hopper". She was the chair of the UK's Civil Aviation Authority from 2009 to 2020.
Ursula Hilda Mary Martin is a British computer scientist,with research interests in theoretical computer science and formal methods. She is also known for her activities aimed at encouraging women in the fields of computing and mathematics. Since 2019,she has served as a professor at the School of Informatics,University of Edinburgh.

Robert William Black was a public administrator who was the first Auditor General for Scotland,holding the post between 2000 and 2012. He had several Local Authority management roles before being appointed as Auditor General. As Auditor General he coordinated the scrutiny of public finances over several administrations. After retiring from the role of Auditor General he held multiple board positions and chaired several independent commissions that carried out independent reviews on issues such as housing policy and policing.
Ashten Regan is a Scottish politician who served as Minister for Community Safety from 2018 to 2022. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP),she has been the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Edinburgh Eastern since 2016. On 18 February 2023,Regan announced her candidacy for Leader of the SNP and First Minister of Scotland. She received 11.1% of the vote and finished in third place of three candidates.
Professor Louise Heathwaite,CBE FRSE FRSB is a British environmental scientist. She is Distinguished Professor in the Lancaster Environment Centre at Lancaster University and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research and Enterprise. She is a hydrochemist working on diffuse environmental pollution,especially the pathways of nitrogen and phosphorus loss from agricultural land to water.
June Paterson-Brown,née Garden was a Scottish medical doctor,early family planning advocate,Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guides Association,and the first female Lord Lieutenant in Scotland.
Louise Macdonald,OBE,FRSE became the National Director of the Institute of Directors (IOD) in Scotland,and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) in 2021. Her appointment has made her the first female to hold the role of National Director. For ten years she was the CEO of Young Scot,the award-winning national charitable organisation for citizenship for people in Scotland,aged 11–26. She was awarded an OBE for her services to youth,in the 2015 New Years Honours.
