Andrew Godley (born November 5, 1963) is a British economist, and a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at University of Sussex Business School. He served as a Professor of Management and Business History at the Henley Business School at University of Reading, where he has been a Pro Dean of Resources and Partnerships. He is remains a Visiting Professor at Zhejiang University and Wharton School and Center for Advanced Jewish Studies, University of Pennsylvania.

Life and career

Godley received his BSc at London School of Economics and Political Science in 1986, and his doctorate in 1993 from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He joined Department of Economics at University of Reading in October 1991. . He has worked in European University Institute, Nuffield College at University of Oxford, Wake Forest University in the United States.[ citation needed ]

Godley is a professor of management of business history at the University of Reading's Henley Business School. He also serves there as the Pro Dean of Resources and Partnerships. [1] He is a visiting professor at the Zhejiang University, Wharton School and Center for Advanced Jewish Studies, University of Pennsylvania.[ citation needed ]

He is co-founder of Henley Centre for Entrepreneurship, which was recognised as one of the top 20 Centres for Entrepreneurship in the world by the AACSB in 2017. [2] H .[ citation needed ]

Research

Godley's research focuses on the links between entrepreneurship, business history, innovation, entrepreneurial ecosystems. [3] He has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals including Economic History Review , Business History Review , Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal and Journal of Management Studies . His research has been awarded grants from the ESRC, the Leverhulme Trust and British Academy. He has served as an Editorial Board member of Business HistoryReview and Associate Editor of Scandinavian Economic History Review. He is in the top 20 of the world’s most cited scholars in Business History Review. [4]

Henley Business School is a business school which is affiliated with the University of Reading. It was formed by merging the previously independent Henley Management College with the existing business school of the University of Reading. As a result of the merger it now occupies two sites: Greenlands Campus, near the town of Henley-on-Thames, the original site of the Henley Management College, and Whiteknights Campus in Reading.

John Harry Dunning was a British economist and is widely recognised as the father of the field of international business. He researched the economics of international direct investment and the multinational enterprise from the 1950s until his death. In the 1980s, he published the eclectic paradigm or OLI-Model/Framework as further development on Internalization theory. OLI remains the predominant theoretical perspective to study international business activities, notably foreign direct investment and multinational enterprises. His first book, American Investment in British Manufacturing Industry (1958), is the first seminal work in the international business field.

The Reading School of International Business is widely understood in the field of international business (IB), management and economics to embody a stream of conceptual, and theoretically-driven empirical research, and consists of a group of economists that have a common approach to analyzing multinational enterprise and foreign direct investment. Some are based in the Department of Economics and in Henley Business School at the University of Reading, England, but membership is international. The Reading School builds upon the pathbreaking theoretical work of Peter Buckley and Mark Casson on internalization theory. This was complemented by simultaneous work by John Dunning as he developed the eclectic paradigm of international business as an envelope explanation containing three principal drivers of foreign direct investment, comprising ownership (O); location (L); and internalization (I). The Reading School approach continues through the work of its academic disciples around the world, as well as through The John Dunning Centre at Henley Business School, University of Reading, under the directorship of Rajneesh Narula.

Geoffrey G. Jones is a British-born business historian. He became a US citizen in 2010. He is currently Isidor Straus Professor of Business History at the Harvard Business School. The previous holders of this Chair, which was the first in the world in business history being founded in 1927, included Alfred D. Chandler, Jr. and Thomas K. McCraw.
