Anne Swithinbank (born 1957 in Belvedere in Kent) is a trained horticulturist and freelance gardening broadcaster who has written several books on gardening, including Gardener's Question Time: All Your Gardening Problems Solved, Gardeners' World Book of Houseplants and Gardeners' World Book of Containers.

Biography

She trained at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew Gardens and was Glasshouse Supervisor at the Royal Hortcultural Society's garden at Wisley, Surrey.

She is known for being a regular panellist on Gardeners' Question Time [1] since 1994, she has also presented television gardening programmes including The Gardens of the Caribbean and The Chelsea Flower Show.

She writes for several magazines and papers including the News of the World and BBC's Gardeners' World Magazine. She has written several books on gardening including the Gardeners' World Book of Houseplants and Gardeners' World Book of Containers.

In 1986, she left Wisley to work as a freelance gardener and speaker. She then joined the team on BBC 2's Gardeners' World where she was a regular presenter for five years; subsequently, she has made guest appearances.

Swithinbank is a patron of the charity the British Cactus & Succulent Society. [2]

<i>Gardeners World</i> BBC television series

Gardeners' World is a long-running British gardening programme, first broadcast on 5 January 1968. The 2024 series is the 55th. Its first series was presented by Ken Burras and came from Oxford Botanical Gardens. Up until 2020 most of its episodes have been 30 minutes in duration; however, this changed in spring 2020 when the format was extended to an hour. All episodes in the 2021 series onwards follow this 60-minute format. Gardeners' World currently airs between mid-March and late October on BBC Two every Friday. The programme usually takes a four-month winter break from November to February.

There are over 80 local branches around the UK that organise local activities including shows, talks and markets. The national Society also organises talks, shows and international conventions. The current patrons are Anne Swithinbank and Tom Hart Dyke.
