Bangabandhu Military Museum is a military museum of Bangladesh. Administered by the Bangladesh Army, the museum is located right beside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre at Bijoy Sarani of the capital Dhaka. [1] The museum has a collection of Bangladesh's military history, heritage, success stories and various weapons and ammunition. [2] [3] It is now most popular to the young generation and also to the ll ages people.

History

The museum was established in 1987. It was permanently moved in its current location at Bijoy Sarani in 1999. [4] It has a collection of vehicles and weapons rescued from the then Pakistani army after the Liberation war of Bangladesh. [5]

Design and layout

The museum is a joint venture project of, Ali Imam (Architect), Nakshabid Architects (an architectural consultancy firm), Design Work Group (DWG), Mukta Dinwiddie Maclaren Architects (MDM) combinedly worked on the museums interior and exterior.

The museum is divided in to six sections, including the Bangladesh History Gallery on the ground floor, Bangladesh Army Gallery on the 2nd floor, Bangladesh Air Force gallery on the 3rd floor, UN Peacekeeping Gallery on the 4th floor, and Bangladesh Navy Gallery at the basement.

There is also a separate museum named "Toshakhana Jadughor" within the museum complex, where gifts and awards received by the country's important personnel are showcased.

There is also a grand sculpture in the middle of the "Toshakhana Jadughor" and all the artefacts see showcased around it in a corkscrew pattern.

The museum also has a wide implementation of Augmented Reality, Interactive Displays, Virtual Reality, Holograms etc. [6]

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly known by the honorific prefix Bangabandhu was a Bangladeshi politician, revolutionary, statesman, activist and diarist. As a politician, Mujib had held continuous positions as president or prime minister from April 1971 until his assassination in August 1975: as president from 1971 to 1972 and briefly from 1975 until his death, and as prime minister from 1972 to 1975. Mujib successfully led the Bangladeshi independence movement and restored the Bengali sovereignty after over two centuries following the Battle of Plassey in 1757, for which he is honoured as the 'Father of the Nation' in Bangladesh. In 2011, the fifteenth constitutional amendment in Bangladesh referred to Sheikh Mujib as the Father of the Nation who declared independence; these references were enshrined in the fifth, sixth, and seventh schedules of the constitution. His Bengali nationalist ideology, socio-political theories, and political doctrines are sometimes called Mujibism.

Toshakhana is a specialized treasury for gifts received by the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The gifts are considered property of the treasure and are stored in Toshakhana which is part of the Presidential palace, Bangabhaban. Several of the items of the Toshkhana are stored at the National museum and Toshakhana Museum, which was built in 2018.

Bijoy Sarani is a main road in Dhaka city. Between Farmgate and Old Airport, Sonny Rangs Building has connected Farm House to Rokeya Sarani crosswise. The busy road, the mural Vijay Sarani fountain at one end and a militant airstrip at the other end is placed on the island. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre is located on one side of it.
