BelCompany was a Dutch store-chain that specialises in mobile phones. It was founded in 1995 by Macintosh Retail Group and Pon Holdings, and is currently part of Vodafone Netherlands.

In 2011, BelCompany had 176 stores in the Netherlands, and daughter-chain Telefoonkopen.nl had 34 stores. In 2010 the company had a revenue of 181.3 million euro. [1] The chain was headquartered in Veenendaal.

History

In 1995 the first store was opened in Zaandam. In 1997 it opened a business branch named BelCompany Business Solutions. Macintosh Retail Group became sole owner of BelCompany in 1998.

In 2008 BelCompany and Macintosh founded the chain Telefoonkopen.nl. In 2011 this chain had 34 stores. [1]

In 2009 Macintosh Retail Group sold the Belgian stores of BelCompany to Telenet. The Belgian stores still work under the commercial name BelCompany but are officially named Telenet Mobile NV. In 2011 Macintosh Retail Group sold BelCompany and Telefoonkopen.nl to Vodafone Netherlands for 120 million euro. [1] [2]

Vodafone since rebranded some of the BelCompany stores to Vodafone stores, and closed the remaining ones by 2016. [3] [4]

Telenet Group N.V. is the largest provider of cable broadband services in Belgium. Its business comprises the provision of analog and digital cable television, fixed and mobile telephone services, primarily to residential customers in Flanders and Brussels. In addition, Telenet offers services to business customers all across Belgium and in Luxembourg under its brand Telenet Solutions.

Pearle Vision is an American chain of eye care stores. It is one of the largest franchised optical retailers in North America. The company was acquired by Luxottica, an Italian eyewear company, in 2004. As of December 31, 2018, Pearle Vision operated 110 corporate stores and had 419 franchises throughout North America.

Base (mobile telephony provider)

Base is the third largest of Belgium's three mobile telecommunications operators. It is a subsidiary of Telenet. It competes with Proximus and Orange Belgium. It was previously owned by KPN and sold to Telenet in 2015.

Vroom & Dreesmann

Vroom & Dreesmann (V&D) was a Dutch chain of department stores founded in 1887. It was declared bankrupt on 31 December 2015, although its branches were still in operation until 15 February 2016. On 16 February 2016, it was announced that takeover negotiations had not led to an agreement, ultimately resulting in the company's demise.

Audax Groep Print media company

Audax Groep is a Dutch print media and retail company, active also in Belgium. Its headquarters are located in Gilze. Audax was founded in 1958 by Jacques de Leeuw. Jacques de Leeuw led the company until 2017 when he was replaced by his son, Hubert de Leeuw. In 2019 he was replaced by Casper de Nooijer. In 2020, Hubert de Leeuw took over the lead again. In May 2021 Audax published an intention to sell off the Marskramer, Novy and Prima stores it had acquired in 2019. In August 2021, these were acquired by the toy chain Otto Simon.

Free Record Shop

Free Record Shop was a chain of home entertainment stores selling products such as CDs, DVDs and video games, founded by Hans Breukhoven. Its first store opened on October 15, 1971 in Schiedam, Netherlands. At its peak, the franchise had more than 200 stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, but online available music and media supplanted the sale of physical media carriers.

Formido (store)

Formido bouwmarkten B.V. was a Dutch Hardware store-chain. Formido opened its first store on 22 November 1976 in Waddinxveen. It was part of the franchise-organisation Maxeda, which headquarters is located in Amsterdam. As of 2011 Formido had 80 stores, all of which were located in the Netherlands. Of these stores, 15 were managed by Formido and 65 were franchised. Maxeda also owns the Hardware store-chain Praxis and Brico.

Hubo Netherlands

Hubo is a Dutch hardware store-chain. Hubo Netherlands and Hubo Belgium are two separate entities. Hubo is part of the franchise-organisation DGN Retail, which headquarters is located in Apeldoorn. DGN Retail also owns the Hardware store-chains Multimate Service Bouwmarkt, Fixet and Doeland. Hubo is the oldest Hardware store franchise in the Netherlands, starting its franchising business in 1969. As of 2011 Hubo has over 200 stores, all of which are located in the Netherlands, making it the largest Hardware store-chain in the Netherlands in number of stores.

T-Mobile Netherlands

T-Mobile Netherlands BV is the largest mobile phone company in the Netherlands. It is owned by Deutsche Telekom. As of August 2020, it has 5.7 million customers.

Videoland is a Dutch OTT online service provider owned by RTL Nederland. Originally it was a retail chain of video rental stores. Its main competitor is Netflix.

Payconiq

PayconiqInternational is a Luxembourg-based company developing a mobile payment and payment processing platform, active in Belgium and Luxembourg. The company will discontinue its services in the Netherlands on 1 January 2022. The company had the initial support of ING Bank, which was joined later by Belgian banks KBC Bank and Belfius, and launched its first minimum-viable product in Belgium, in 2015. What started as a mobile payment app is today a fully-fledged platform offering multi-country payment solutions in Benelux, through different types of integration: stand-alone apps, bank app integrations and more.

VodafoneZiggo Group Holding B.V. is a joint venture between Liberty Global and Vodafone, announced in February 2016, approved by the European Commission in August 2016 and completed in December 2016.
