Cameron Platter (born 1978) is a South African contemporary visual artist.

Work

His work has been described as "unorthodox", [1] "the delinquent love child of Quentin Tarantino and Dr Seuss" [2] and where "the bizarreness of everyday life comes together in an expression unashamedly unforgiving, yet deeply observant". [3]

Examples are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; [4] [5] [6] the FRAC des Pays de la Loire in France; the Iziko South African National Gallery; the Margulies Collection in Miami, Florida; the Zeitz Collection in South Africa; and the New Church Collection in South Africa. Frances Stark is an interdisciplinary artist and writer, whose work centers on the use and meaning of language, and the translation of this process into the creative act. She often works with carbon paper to hand-trace letters, words, and sentences from classic works by Emily Dickinson, Goethe, Henry Miller, Samuel Beckett, and others to explore the voices and interior states of writers. She uses these hand-traced words, often in repetition, as visual motifs in drawings and mixed media works that reference a subject, mood, or another discipline such as music, architecture, or philosophy.

Xaviera Simmons is an American contemporary artist. She works in photography, performance, painting, video, sound art, sculpture, and installation. Between 2019 and 2020, Simmons was a visiting professor and lecturer at Harvard University. Simmons was a Harvard University Solomon Fellow from 2019-2020. Simmons has stated in her lectures and writings that she is a descendant of Black American enslaved persons, European colonizers and Indigenous persons through the institution of chattel slavery on both sides of her family's lineage.

Mary Sibande is a South African artist based in Johannesburg. Her art consists of sculptures, paintings, photography, and design. Sibande uses these mediums and techniques to help depict the human form and explore the construction of identity in a postcolonial South African context. In addition, Sibande focuses on using her work to show her personal experiences through Apartheid. Her art also attempts to critique stereotypical depictions of women, particularly black women.

Sandra Monterroso is a Guatemalan visual artist and designer. Art historian Virginia Pérez-Ratton writes about Monterroso's beginnings as a performance artist in Guatemala during 1999 and 2000. Alongside her were other Guatemalan female performers like Regina José Galindo, Maria Adela Díaz, and Jessica Lagunas. Recently Monterroso's work focuses not only in performance art, she works with different media as videoart, installations and mix media. Her work is related to power structures, gender issues and decolonial thinking. Her work is included in the Artist Pension Trust.

Simon Denny is a contemporary artist based in Berlin. He represented New Zealand at the 2015 Venice Biennale. Since 2018 he is a professor for time based media at the HFBK Hamburg.
