The Center of the American Experiment is a Minnesota-based think tank that advocates for conservative and free-market principles. [5] John Hinderaker, of the Power Line blog, is its president. [6]

Overview

The Center of the American Experiment was founded in 1990 by Mitch Pearlstein, a former Reagan appointee. [2] Annette Meeks previously served as the organization's CEO. [7] It has received grants from the Bradley Foundation and the John M. Olin Foundation. [8] Katherine Kersten is a Senior Fellow at the organization. [9]

The Center has supported school vouchers [8] and opposed affirmative action, particularly in academia. [10] The organization has been credited with playing a major role in empowering conservatives in Minnesota. [11]

Its offices were set on fire in February 2024 in a case of suspected arson. [12]

It is named after the philosopher John Locke, who was a primary contributor to classical liberalism. JLF was co-founded by Art Pope, a North Carolina businessman active in politics. Pope's family foundation provides most of the support for the center.

The Goldwater Institute is a conservative and libertarian public policy think tank located in Phoenix, Arizona, whose stated mission is "to defend and strengthen the freedom guaranteed to all Americans in the constitutions of the United States and all fifty states". The organization was established in 1988 with the support of former Senator Barry Goldwater.

The Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF) is an American conservative think tank based in Austin, Texas. The organization was founded in 1989 by James R. Leininger, who sought intellectual support for his education reform ideas, including public school vouchers. Projects of the organization include Right on Crime, which is focused on criminal justice reform, and Fueling Freedom, which seeks to "explain the forgotten moral case for fossil fuels" by rejecting the scientific consensus on climate change.

Sutherland Institute is a conservative public policy think tank located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Institute was founded in 1995 by Utah businessman and philanthropist Gaylord K. Swim. The Sutherland Institute believes that families, private initiatives, voluntary associations, churches and businesses are better than the government at solving problems.

Movement conservatism is a term used by political analysts to describe conservatives in the United States since the mid-20th century and the New Right. According to George H. Nash (2009) the movement comprises a coalition of five distinct impulses. From the mid-1930s to the 1960s, libertarians, traditionalists, and anti-communists made up this coalition, with the goal of fighting the liberals' New Deal. In the 1970s, two more impulses were added with the addition of neoconservatives and the religious right.

Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TIZA) was a K-8 school in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota named after Tarek ibn Ziyad, the muslim general of medieval Morocco who entered Gibraltar in 711 CE on behalf of the Umayyad Caliphate and defeated the Visigoths. The school is sponsored by Islamic Relief USA. The school has a primarily Muslim student body and has been embroiled in a number of controversies regarding the separation of church and state. The school has a waiting list of 1,500 students. Around 80% of students are English language learners. Despite this, the school has one of the highest reading scores on standardized tests in the state. As of July 2011 TiZA has been shut down by order of the Minnesota Education Department, due to lack of an approved charter school sponsor.

Katherine Kersten is a conservative columnist who wrote for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Annette Meeks is a Minnesota Republican politician and a member of the state's Metropolitan Council. She was the 2010 endorsed Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, running with gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer.

Some variants of feminism are considered more conservative than others. Historically feminist scholars tend to not have much interest in conservative women but in recent years there have been efforts at greater scholarly analysis of these women and their views.

The State Policy Network (SPN) is a nonprofit organization that serves as a network for conservative and libertarian think tanks focusing on state-level policy in the United States. The network serves as a public policy clearinghouse and advises its member think tanks on fundraising, running a nonprofit, and communicating ideas. Founded in 1992, it is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, with member groups located in all fifty states.

Donors Trust is an American nonprofit donor-advised fund. It was founded in 1999 with the goal of "safeguarding the intent of libertarian and conservative donors". As a donor advised fund, Donors Trust is not legally required to disclose the identity of its donors, and most of its donors remain anonymous. It distributes funds to various conservative and libertarian organizations, and has been characterized as the "dark money ATM" of the political right.

The Freedom Foundation of Minnesota (FFM) is a conservative think tank based in Minnesota. The group states that it "actively advocates the principles of individual freedom, personal responsibility, economic freedom, and limited government." Annette Meeks founded the organization in 2006 and currently serves as CEO. The Freedom Foundation of Minnesota founded Minnesota Watchdog, an online news service. The organization is a member of the State Policy Network.

The Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute (TCCRI) is a conservative think tank in Texas. It was founded in 1996 by state legislators who had a vision to develop and implement conservative public policies in state government. The group states that it "is committed to shaping public policy through a principled approach to state government."

The Searle Freedom Trust is a 501(c)(3) grant-making foundation located in the United States. It was established by business executive Daniel C. Searle in 1998. As of 2017, the trust had an endowment of $141 million.

The White Privilege Conference is a yearly conference held to discuss white privilege. Founded by Eddie Moore Jr. in 2000.

The Indiana Policy Review Foundation(IPR) is an Indiana fusion conservative and libertarian, free market think tank. According to its web site, the IPR’s mission is to "marshal the best thought on governmental, economic and educational issues at the state and municipal level." The IPR publishes the Indiana Policy Review. Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, it is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization.
