Elijah Joy (born Erik C. Nedd) is an American vegan celebrity chef, green living advocate, emcee, television host, singer, and writer. He is the founder of Organic Soul, Incorporated, a vegan lifestyle and multimedia company based in Takoma Park, Maryland, and the creator of Go-Go Greens, a raw food vegan deli product. Organic Soul was a sponsor of Al Gore's 2009 Green Inaugural Ball. [1]

Joy was the personal chef for Isaac Hayes and became a semi-regular feature on WRKS' The Isaac Hayes and Friends Show in 1997. He would later become a live emcee at B.B. King's Blues Club and Grill and debuted Go-Go Greens at Moby's vegetarian eatery and tea shop Teany, both in New York City. [2]

Joy was a featured voice-over artist on singer Mýa Harrison's album Fear of Flying. [3] His work has also been featured on The Wendy Williams Show, E! Entertainment Television, Bravo, and MTV.

In 2010, Joy mass-produced Go-Go Greens for wider distribution to coincide with the publication of vegan nutritionist Tracye McQuirter's book By Any Greens Necessary. That year he also opened Organic Soul's first retail outlet in Union Station, Washington, D.C., as a vegan pop-up store. In 2012 he opened his second vegan pop-up retail location in Oakland's Chinatown. [4]

On October 28, 2011, Joy appeared on Oprah's Lifeclass speaking about lessons of forgiveness and joy in the wake of his parents' death by murder-suicide. [5]

Since moving back to his hometown of Washington, D.C., Joy has been partnering with civic and nonprofit organizations to provide culturally focused farm-to-table food solutions to food-insecure areas in the city's Ward 8. His work in cooperative development was featured in the October 2016 issue of Yes! Magazine [6] and has been documented in a short film series by students from American University's Center for Media and Social Impact.

A cafeteria worker at the local elementary school in the town of South Park, Colorado, Chef is generally portrayed as more intelligent than the other adult residents of the town, and understanding to the children. His advice is often sought by the show's core group of child protagonists—Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick—as he is the only adult they completely trust. Chef frequently gives completely honest advice without considering whether it is appropriate for children, usually in the non sequitur form of a lascivious soul song.

Smoove Jones is the seventh studio album by American singer Mya. It was released exclusively through Apple Music and iTunes on February 14, 2016 by Planet 9, Harrison's label, while physical copies were made available for purchase through the singer's official website. The project commemorates the release of the singer's debut single "It's All About Me" and eighteenth anniversary in the entertainment industry. Musically, Smoove Jones incorporated R&B/soul/hip-hop with old school elements from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Dubbed a concept album, the project exhibited Harrison portraying seductive radio hostess Smoove Jones, an after hours radio show she created specifically for her "grown and sexy" fans. Critically, Smoove Jones received favorable reception from music critics. It debuted at number thirty on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, marking her highest entry since 2003's Moodring. In July 2020, local plant-based investors took over operations of the restaurant. The restaurant served organic, vegan, Mediterranean-inspired dishes and has a retail section with art and books, curated by Moby himself. Moby's vision was to create a space that includes various aspects of society that he cares about. The restaurant closed down in December 2022.
