FM Derana is Free-to-air Sinhala radio channel in Sri Lanka. Established in March 2009, FM Derana broadcasts 24 hours a day and it covers over 95% of the Island. Designed to appeal to a broad cross-section of listeners, FM Derana is leveraged on the strength and success of TV Derana, a strategic consolidation that will revolutionize the media landscape with its simple yet highly entertaining format. Currently FM Derana holds the No 1 position among all radio channels in Sri Lanka. [1] The channel had maintained this No 1 position for the past three years in a row. FM Derana managed to achieve this No. 1 position in just 8 years from its inception. There are 37 channels currently operating in Sri Lanka of which 30 channels are in the Sinhala Language. There are little over 50 local channels in operation currently in Sri Lanka. [2] [3]

History

FM Derana is a Sinhala language FM radio channel launched on 29 March 2009 extending the promise of "Embracing novelty while upholding values" ("අපේ දේ රැකගෙන අලුත් දේ අරගෙන") to the Sri Lankan radio industry.

FM Derana was the official Sri Lankan Radio Broadcaster [4] of 2011 Cricket World Cup which was held from 19 February 2011 to 2 April 2011.

Hemal Sachindra Ranasinghe as Sinhala: හේමාල් සචින්ද්‍ර රණසිංහ) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema and television. He earned the critics' award for 'Best Actor' and 'Most Popular Actor' at the Derana Film Awards in both 2016 and 2018 becoming one of Sri Lanka's most popular actors of modern cinema. Ranasinghe started his career as a model, appearing in several advertising commercials. He made his cinema debut in 2012 appearing in Super Six. In 2016 he won Most Popular Actor, and Best Promising Actor at the Hiru Golden Film Award.

Carlton Sports Network(CSN), was a Sri Lankan sports, lifestyles and business television channel. CSN was launched on 7 March 2011 and closed in 2016. It was involved in several controversies since its creation, primarily due to overlapping interests of its connected owners. "Carlton" is considered to be the "brand name" of the Rajapaksa family alongside the Carlton Residence of the Rajapaksas, Carlton Pre School owned by Shiranthi Rajapaksa, and Carlton Rugby owned by Namal Rajapaksa, as well as the Carlton Motor Sports Club linked to Rohitha Rajapaksa.

Dhanith Sri is a Sri Lankan singer, composer and songwriter. He is considered one of the most popular artists in Sri Lanka. Dhanith entered the mainstream music industry with his 2018 hit "Pandama". The alternative rock feel of this song is complemented by his high-pitched vocals as well as the mix of Sri Lankan traditional drum beats and synthesizers. It became number one on TV and radio charts concurrently.
