Jay Vasavada is Gujarati language writer, orator and columnist from India. Born in Bhavnagar and brought up in Gondal, Gujarat, he writes columns in various publications since 1996. He has published several books compiling his columns.
Jay Vasavada was born on 6 October 1973 in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India. His father Lalit Vasavada was a lecturer of Gujarati language, and his mother Jayshree Vasavada was a matron at Adhyapan Mandir, Junagadh. His mother left job after his birth and become full-time housewife and his teacher. He completed his primary education studying at home. He completed his secondary education from Vidhya Mandir School, Gondal. He joined Swaminarayan Gurukul for higher secondary education in science. He failed in 12th grade board examinations. He later enrolled in commerce education. He passed higher secondary and graduated with specialization in management. [1] [ citation needed ]
He served as a lecturer of marketing for three years in Commerce College affiliated with Saurashtra University. He later served as principal-in-charge. He frequently lectures at Academic Staff College, Saurashtra University.
His writing career started with articles published in newspaper in Rajkot. He later joined Gujarat Samachar as columnist in 1996 [1] which publishes his two weekly columns, Anavrutta and Spectrometre. He writes column Rangat Sangat in Gujarati weekly Abhiyaan since 2008. He previously wrote daily column in Mumbai edition of Mid-day . He wrote for Anokhee, Aarpaar and Gujarat monthlies. [2] [3] He delivers lectures across Gujarat on different subjects. He hosted Gujarati celebrity talk show Samvaad on ETV Gujarati for 225 episodes. He served as writer and anchor of cultural TV series Aaswaad on DD Girnar. He frequently delivers speeches on All India Radio. He had scripted and presented weekend radio show Cinema Sizzlers on BIG FM 92.7 Rajkot.[ citation needed ] He performed cameo in Gujarati film Bey Yaar (2014). [10]

Kathiawar is a peninsula, near the far north of India's west coast, of about 61,000 km2 (23,500 sq mi) bordering the Arabian Sea. It is bounded by the Gulf of Kutch in the northwest and by the Gulf of Khambhat in the east. In the northeast, it is connected to the rest of Gujarat and borders on the low, fertile hinterland of Ahmedabad. It is crossed by two belts of hill country and is drained radially by nine rivers which have little natural flow aside from in monsoon months, thus dams have been built on some of these. Kathiawar ports have been flourishing centres of trade and commerce since at least the 16th century.
Gondal is a city of about 115,000 residents and a municipality of about 175,000 in the Rajkot district of the Indian state of Gujarat. Gondal State was one of the eight first-class princely states of Kathiawar Agency, Bombay Presidency in British India. Ruled by a Hindu Rajput dynasty of the Jadeja clan, the capital of the state was Gondal town.
The Gujarati Samacharnewspaper was founded byShri Chhabilbhai M. Patel in 1932. Chhabilbhai M. Patel was a well-known freedom fighter and journalist who believed in the power of the press to bring about positive change in society. He started the newspaper with the aim of providing a platform for the people of Gujarat to express their views and opinions on various issues. Over the years, Gujarati Samachar has become one of the most popular newspapers in Gujarat and is widely read by people of all ages and backgrounds. and acquired by Shantilal Shah in 1952. Its first issue was published on 16 January 1932.
Jhaverchand or Zaverchand Kalidas Meghani was an Indian poet, writer, social reformer and freedom fighter. He is a well-known name in the field of Gujarati literature. He was born in Chotila where the Government College has been renamed for this literary figure as Raashtreeya Shaayar Zaverchand Meghani College, Chotila. Mahatma Gandhi spontaneously gave him the title of Raashtreeya Shaayar. Besides this he received many awards like Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak and Mahida Paaritoshik in literature. He authored more than 100 books. His first book was a translation work of Rabindranath Tagore's called Kathaa-u-Kaahinee titled Kurbani Ni Katha which was first published in 1922. He contributed widely to Gujarati folk literature. He went from village to village in search of folk-lores and published them in various volumes of Saurashtra Ni Rasdhar. He was also the Editor of Phulchhab Newspaper of Janmabhoomi group.
Gijubhai Badheka was an educator who helped to introduce Montessori education methods to India. He is referred to as "Moochhali Maa". Badheka was a high court lawyer, however, following the birth of his son in 1923, he developed an interest in childhood development and education. In 1920, Badheka founded the "Bal Mandir" pre-primary school. Badheka published a number of works in the field of education including Divaswapna ("Daydreams").
Nanabhai Bhatt, was an Indian educator, writer, thinker and Indian independence activist. Bhatt was a contemporary of educators Gijubhai Badheka and Harbhai Trivedi. The three worked to advance rural education. Bhatt died on 31 December 1961. He has written a number of books on Indian Cultural Heritage which include Ramayana na Patro, Mahabharat Na Patro, Mahabharat Ni Akhyaikayo 1-2, Bhagawat kathao. Ghadatar and Chanatar is his autobiography.
Kevi Rite Jaish is a 2012 Indian Gujarati-language drama film directed by Abhishek Jain and produced by Nayan Jain. The film is a satire on the fascination and obsession of the Patels' – a Gujarati farmer community – migration to the U.S. Over the last half century, thousands of Patels have migrated to the US and have come to dominate its motel industry. The film stars Divyang Thakkar, Veronica Kalpana-Gautam, Tejal Panchasara, Kenneth Desai, and Anang Desai. The success of the film started a "new wave" in the Gujarati cinema.
Vishnu Pandya is a journalist, biographer, poet, novelist, writer and political analyst from Gujarat, India. He has been the chairman of Gujarat Sahitya Akademi since 2017. Pandya writes articles on politics, history and historical places which are carried by several Gujarati newspapers and magazines, are among the most widely read columns in the State. He has been active in journalism for the last 40 years. Along with column writing in a Gujarati daily, he serves as General Secretary of Vishwa Gujarati Samaj.
Bey Yaar is a 2014 Indian Gujarati-language coming-of-age film directed by Abhishek Jain. The film is about friendship and two friends. The film stars Manoj Joshi, Darshan Jariwala, Divyang Thakkar, Pratik Gandhi, Amit Mistry, Samvedna Suwalka. The film was released on 29 August 2014, to positive reviews and became a box-office success. It completed 50 weeks in theatres. The film was screened at New York Indian Film Festival, becoming the first ever Gujarati film hosted by the festival.
The Media in Gujarati language started with publication of Bombay Samachar in 1822. Initially the newspapers published business news and they were owned by Parsi people based in Bombay. Later Gujarati newspapers started published from other parts of Gujarat. Several periodicals devoted to social reforms were published in the second half of the 19th century. After arrival of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian independence movement peaked and it resulted in proliferation of Gujarati media. Following independence, the media was chiefly focused on political news. After bifurcation of Bombay state, the area of service changed. Later there was an increase in readership due to growth of literacy and the media houses expanded its readership by publishing more number of editions. Later these media houses ventured into digital media also. The radio and television media expanded after 1990.

He is the recipient of the Jayant Pathak Puraskar (1985), Critic's award (1986), Kavishwar Dalpatram Award (2013), Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar (2015), Narsinh Mehta Award (2018), Kalapi Award (2018), Darshak Sahitya Sanman Award (2021), and Narmad Suvarna Chandrak (2022).
Diwaliben Punjabhai Bhil, also known as Diwaliben Punjabhai Ladhia, was an Indian folk singer and playback singer from Gujarat. Her talent was discovered late; she then sang on radio and in Gujarati films and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990.
Jhaverchand Meghani Award or Jhaverchand Meghani Folklore Award is a literary award which is given for notable contribution to the Gujarati folk literature. Named after Gujarati author Jhaverchand Meghani, the award was established by Jhaverchand Meghani Lok Sahitya Kendra, Saurastra University, Rajkot.
Vishwanath Maganlal Bhatt was a Gujarati literary critic and lexicographer from Gujarat, India. He had published 22 works. He was awarded the Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1935.
Pranav Vinodbhai Pandya is a Gujarati-language writer, poet and columnist from Gujarat, India. In 2013, he received Kavi Ravji Patel Yuva Sahitya Pratibha Award, instituted by Gujarat Samachar. In 2019, the Indian National Theatre awarded him the Shayda Award for his contribution to Gujarati poetry.
Vaju Kotak was a Gujarati writer, publisher, journalist, and an Indian film director and screenwriter. He primarily worked in Gujarati film industry and in Bollywood during his career span. He is known to be the co-founder of weekly news magazine Chitralekha, published in Gujarati and Marathi.
