Joseph Jerry Andrew (born March 1,1960) is an American politician and lawyer. He was national chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 1999 to 2001. He previously served as chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party from 1995 to 1999. He served with DNC General Chairman Ed Rendell. Asked to serve by President Bill Clinton,Andrew became,at the age of 39,one of the youngest chairpersons in the history of the DNC. He later served as chairman of the New Democratic Network,and in 2006 helped to found The Blue Fund,a mutual fund which invests in companies that contribute to Democratic campaigns. He now serves as the global chairman of Dentons,the world's largest law firm. [3]
Andrew was considered to be a candidate for Governor of Indiana in 2004,but he decided against it after Joe Kernan announced that he would run. [4] During the 2008 Democratic presidential nominating contest he was one of the first to endorse Senator Hillary Clinton in November 2007. However,on May 1,2008,he switched his endorsement to Senator Barack Obama. [5]
Andrew grew up on a farm near Fort Wayne,Indiana. His parents divorced when he was young. His father was a doctor and his mother was a school teacher and entrepreneur. [6] Andrew graduated from Yale University in 1982 and Yale Law School in 1985. [3] While at Yale,he served as editor-in-chief of the Yale University literary review. [7]
Shortly after law school,Andrew began working on Democratic campaigns. He worked as the campaign manager for attorney Jack Wickes during the 1988 United States Senate election in Indiana. [7] He also served as campaign advisor to Secretary of State of Indiana Joseph H. Hogsett,whose term was from 1989 to 1994. [8]
From 1999 to 2001,Andrew served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. At the time he was one of the youngest people to serve in that capacity. [9]
Andrew joined the Washington DC office of the law firm of Sonnenschein Nath and Lowenthal LLP,now known as Dentons,in 2002. [10] He was named global chairman that same year. [9]

Senator Barack Obama from Illinois gave his acceptance speech on August 28 at Invesco Field in what the party called an "Open Convention". Denver last hosted the Democratic National Convention in 1908. Obama became the party's first nonwhite nominee,and nominee of African descent,for president. The 2008 Florida Democratic presidential primary took place on January 29,2008. Originally,the state had 185 delegates up for grabs that were to be awarded in the following way:121 delegates were to be awarded based on the winner in each of Florida's 25 congressional districts while an additional 64 delegates were to be awarded to the statewide winner. Twenty-five unpledged delegates,known as superdelegates,were initially able to cast their votes at the Democratic National Convention.
The 2008 Indiana Democratic presidential primary took place on May 6,2008. It was an open primary with 72 delegates at stake. The winner in each of Indiana's nine congressional districts was awarded all of that district's delegates,totaling 47. Another 25 delegates were awarded to the statewide winner,Hillary Clinton. Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was chosen as the party's nominee for president by a 54% majority of delegates present at the convention roll call securing it over primary rival Senator Bernie Sanders,who received 46% of votes from delegates,and becoming the first female candidate to be formally nominated for president by a major political party in the United States. Her running mate,Senator Tim Kaine from Virginia,was confirmed by delegates as the party's nominee for vice president by acclamation.
Joseph Hadden Hogsett is an American attorney,prosecutor,and politician who is the 49th mayor of Indianapolis,Indiana. Prior to being elected,Hogsett served as the Secretary of State of Indiana from 1989 to 1994 and as the Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party from 2003 to 2004. He was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1992,for Indiana's 2nd congressional district in 1994 and for Attorney General of Indiana in 2004. He most recently served as the United States attorney for the Southern District of Indiana from 2010 to 2014. On November 3,2015,he won the race for Mayor of Indianapolis in the 2015 election. He won reelection to a second term in 2019. In 2023,he won reelection to a third term in office.
