Carl Kruger is an American convicted felon and politician from New York. A Democrat from Brooklyn,he represented District 27 in the New York State Senate. Kruger was first elected to the State Senate in 1994 and later became Chair of the Senate Social Service Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. In December 2011,he resigned from the State Senate and pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges. In 2012,Kruger was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Operation Big Coon Dog was an investigation by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) into alleged corruption surrounding the use of federal and state disaster recovery funds by public officials in Buchanan County,Virginia,United States,following severe flooding in the town of Hurley in May 2002. The investigation resulted in the criminal conviction of sixteen people,including several public officials and other government employees,on charges of bribery and fraud. It has been called the largest public corruption case in western Virginia in decades and a step towards uncovering a "dark culture of corruption in Buchanan County".

McDonnell v. United States,579 U.S. 550 (2016),was a United States Supreme Court case concerning the appeal of former Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell's conviction for honest services fraud and Hobbs Act extortion. At issue on appeal was whether the definition of "official act" within the federal bribery statutes encompassed the actions for which McDonnell had been convicted and whether the jury had been properly instructed on this definition at trial.
Carolyn Pokorny is a career federal prosecutor,currently serving as First Assistant United States Attorney at the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. Previously she served as the Inspector General for the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority at the Office of the MTA Inspector General. She is the first woman to hold that position.
