Lal Behari Das was an Indian politician and former member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He served as the representative of the Khejuri constituency between 1956 and 1957 as a member of the Praja Socialist Party. He was elected to the constituency in a by-election and his candidacy was supported by the Communist Party of India which campaigned in opposition to the proposed merger of West Bengal and Bihar. [1] The Khejuri constituency was abolished for the 1957 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election while Das contested and lost on the seat of Bhagawanpur. [2]

The party was founded as the Communist League by Saumyendranath Tagore in 1934,breaking away from the Communist Party of India (CPI). The party was represented in the West Bengal while being a part of Second United Front Cabinet (1969) as well as in various state government during the Left Front rule in the state (1977–2011). In Assam,the party won four Legislative Assembly seats in 1978,but its political influence has since declined in the state.
Jyoti Basu was an Indian Marxist theorist,communist activist,and politician. He was one of the most prominent leaders of Communist movement in India. He served as the 6th and longest serving Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1977 to 2000. He was one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the member of Politburo of the party since its formation in 1964 till 2008. He was also the member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly 11 times. In his political career,spanning over seven decades,he was noted to have been the India's longest serving chief minister in an elected democracy,at the time of his resignation. He was proposed for the post of Prime Minister of India for four times.

Mohit Mitra was an Indian politician and former member of the Lok Sabha of India. He served as a representative of the Calcutta North East constituency between 1956 and 1957 as a member of the Communist Party of India. He was also the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party as its secretary of linguistic reorganisation of state. Following the death of Meghnad Saha,Mitra was appointed as the candidate for the Calcutta North East constituency for a by-election in 1956 and his candidacy was declared a political statement in opposition to the proposed merger of Bihar and West Bengal. He subsequently won the election with a reportedly "huge margin". The Calcutta North East constituency was abolished for the 1957 Indian general election while Mitra contested and lost on the seat of Calcutta North West.
Santanu Pramanik is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party. In May 2021,he was elected as a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Khejuri (constituency). He defeated Partha Pratim Das of All India Trinamool Congress by 17,965 votes in 2021 West Bengal Assembly election.
