List of Yamaha three-wheeled all-terrain vehicles

Last updated

Yamaha entered the ATC market in 1980, after paying patent-right to Honda to produce their own version of the All Terrain Cycle. Starting Modestly with a 125cc Recreation ATC that would remain the foundation of their line through 1985, the YT125 featured a 2 Stoke engine with sealed airbox with snorkel intake, an autolube oil injection system, and featured a narrow tunnel above the engine that was advertised to make the machine easier to keep stable in precarious situations. Advertising pointed out the durability of the tires, at a time when Honda ATC's were still known for relatively weak low-pressure ballon tires. [1]

Yamaha followed the YT125 with the introduction of the YT175 in 1982

Grand Prix motorcycle racing is the premier class of motorcycle road racing events held on road circuits sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Independent motorcycle racing events have been held since the start of the twentieth century and large national events were often given the title Grand Prix. The foundation of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme as the international governing body for motorcycle sport in 1949 provided the opportunity to coordinate rules and regulations in order that selected events could count towards official World Championships. It is the oldest established motorsport world championship.

A semi-automatic transmission is a "theoretical" multiple-speed transmission where part of its operation is automated, but the driver's input would be required to launch the vehicle from a standstill and to manually change gears. Semi-automatic transmissions were exclusively used in motorcycles and are based on conventional manual transmissions or sequential manual transmissions, but use an automatic clutch system. But some semi-automatic transmissions have also been based on standard hydraulic automatic transmissions with torque converters and planetary gearsets.
