This is a list of homicides in Illinois. This list includes notable homicides committed in the U.S. state of Illinois that have a Wikipedia article on the killing, the killer, or the victim. It is divided into five subject areas as follows:

  1. Multiple homicides – homicides having multiple victims. It includes incidents such as the 1886 Haymarket affair, the 1966 murder of six student nurses by Richard Speck, and the 1982 Chicago Tylenol murders
  2. Serial killers – persons who murder three or more persons, with the incidents taking place over more than a month and including a significant period of time between them. This includes John Wayne Gacy, the most prolific serial killer in Illinois history.

John Wayne Gacy was an American serial killer and sex offender who raped, tortured and murdered at least 33 young men and boys in Norwood Park Township, near Chicago, Illinois. He became known as the Killer Clown due to his public performances as a clown prior to the discovery of his crimes.

The East St. Louis massacre was a series of violent attacks on African Americans by white Americans in East St. Louis, Illinois, between late May and early July of 1917. These attacks also displaced 6,000 African Americans and led to the destruction of approximately $400,000 worth of property. They occurred in East St. Louis, an industrial city on the east bank of the Mississippi River, directly opposite the city of St. Louis, Missouri. The July 1917 episode in particular was marked by white-led violence throughout the city. The multi-day rioting has been described as the "worst case of labor-related violence in 20th-century American history", and among the worst racial riots in U.S. history.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Charles Walker (murderer)</span> American murderer (1940–1990)

Charles Thomas Walker was an American convicted murderer who was executed in 1990 by the state of Illinois for the June 1983 murders of Kevin Paule, 21, and his fiancée Sharon Winker, 25, of Mascoutah. Looking for beer money, Walker robbed them of $40 and shot them to death while the couple fished in a St. Clair County creek. He was executed by lethal injection at Stateville Correctional Center at the age of 50, becoming the first person to be executed in Illinois since 1962. The execution was considered botched because the lethal injection machine was unable to make the drugs go through the kinked lines.

The Gage Park stabbings refers to the murders of six members of the Martinez family in 2016 in the Gage Park neighborhood of Chicago in the US.

The Hazelwood massacre was a June 1971 mass murder in which eight people were shot and killed in a house on Hazelwood Street in Detroit, Michigan. All eight victims were African-American. It is the largest mass murder in Detroit's history. It is also the deadliest shooting in the state of Michigan.

Phillip Ronald Paske was an American criminal, murderer, possible serial killer and child pornographer from Chicago, Illinois. He was closest associate and personal friend of sex trafficker John David Norman and briefly an employee of John Wayne Gacy's construction business.
