The Colectiv nightclub fire was a fire in Bucharest, Romania, on 30 October 2015, which killed 64 people and injured 146. The nightclub fire was caused by a fireworks accident, both being the deadliest in Romanian history. It occurred during a free concert performed by the metalcore band Goodbye to Gravity to celebrate the release of their new album, Mantras of War. The band's pyrotechnics, consisting of sparkler firework candles, ignited the club's flammable polyurethane acoustic foam, and the fire spread rapidly. Most of the victims were poisoned by toxins released from the burning foam. Overwhelmed by the high number of victims, Romanian authorities transferred some of the seriously injured to hospitals in Israel, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany and France. Mass protests over the corruption linked to the fire led to the resignation of the Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta.

On 14 November 2020, around 18:30 EET, a fire broke out in the COVID-19 ward of the Piatra Neamț Emergency Hospital in Piatra Neamț, Romania. The fire killed ten people and injured another four, including two doctors. All the deceased people were patients receiving treatment for COVID-19. Many in the ward were on ventilators. The fire brought back to the public's attention the state of the Romanian health system, as well as the political interference in hospital management.

COVID-19 vaccination in Romania started on 27 December 2020. It was announced that the process would be divided into three phases. Medical personnel would be vaccinated first, followed by the population at risk, and finally by the rest of the population. Vaccination was declared free and non-mandatory. As of March 2022, five types of vaccines were authorized to be used in Romania. This is the largest vaccination campaign in the modern history of Romania.

On 29 January 2021, at around 05:00 EET, a fire broke out at the COVID-19 facility in the Prof. Dr. Matei Balș National Institute for Infectious Diseases in Bucharest, Romania, killing five people. On 4 February 2021, the death toll on the fire was reported to have risen to 12. The death toll rose again to 14 on 6 February 2021, with one more death added to the death toll on 8 February 2021 and two more again on 9 February 2021.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 Romanian presidential election</span>

Presidential elections will be held in Romania in either mid- or late November 2024, with an eventual second round to be held in late November or early December 2024 as well. They will be the ninth presidential elections held in post-1989 Romania. As the Romanian Constitution allows a maximum of two presidential terms, incumbent President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, first elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2019, is not eligible for re-election. His second term will normally end in December 2024.

The National Coalition for Romania is a big tent grand coalition in Romania, which includes the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal Party (PNL). In addition, this grand coalition supports the incumbent Romanian President Klaus Iohannis as well. The CNR also included the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) until its withdrawal from the coalition in June 2023.

On 18 September 2022, protests in Moldova began in the capital city of Chișinău, demanding the resignation of the country's pro-Western government, amid an energy crisis causing rising natural gas prices and inflation, caused in part by the war in Ukraine.

The tenth season of the Romanian reality talent show Vocea României premiered on ProTV on September 9, 2022. Irina Rimes and Tudor Chirilă returned as coaches, while Denis 'The Motans' replaced Horia Brenciu. Smiley was joined by Theo Rose, for the first time in the history of the contest there being a double-coached team. Meanwhile, Pavel Bartoș returned for his tenth season as host.
