This is a list of libraries in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, the second UNESCO City of Literature. [1] Melbourne has a rich and varied books-and-reading culture and municipal councils throughout Melbourne provide funding and support for a rich network of libraries. Membership of these libraries is free.

Melbourne's public library services are operated by local government municipalities through a range of grants funding and service agreements. In addition to branch libraries a number of library service providers also operate a mobile service to outer Metropolitan areas. Public Libraries Victoria is the peak body for public libraries in Victoria. [2]

Melbourne tram route 82

Melbourne tram route 82 is operated by Yarra Trams on the Melbourne tram network from Moonee Ponds Junction to Footscray railway station. It is one of only two tram routes which does not travel through the Melbourne CBD, the other being route 78. Part of its route is the last surviving segment of the Footscray tram network. It commenced operating on 2 May 1954.

Capital City Trail

The Capital City Trail is a shared use path in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, which circles the city centre and some inner eastern and northern suburbs. It is 29km in length, and mostly consists of sections of other trails, such as the Merri Creek Trail, Main Yarra Trail, Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and Inner Circle Rail Trail.

Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail

The Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians, which follows the coast line of Hobsons Bay in the inner western suburbs in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The trail forms part of the western half of the Bayside Trail which encircles Port Phillip. It runs from the west side of the Westgate bridge, south and along the coast, finishing at the Skeleton Creek Trail in Sanctuary Lakes.

1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan

The 1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan was a road and rail transport plan for Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia, instituted by Henry Bolte's state government. Most prominently, the plan recommended the provision of an extensive freeway network, much of which has since been built.

Lakes and reservoirs of Melbourne

Melbourne is the capital city of southeastern Australian state of Victoria, and has been consistently voted one of the most liveable cities in the world. Located on the northern/eastern coastal plains of Port Phillip Bay, the city has many lakes, the larger of which are used for water sports, mostly sailing, rowing, canoeing and kayaking, but some are used for activities like water skiing or swimming. Melbourne also hosts a number of major water catchment reservoirs that supply the city's drinking water, as well as many smaller reservoirs or retarding basins used either for stormwater drainage or as agricultural water storage. Some of the smaller lakes and ponds are used as wetland sanctuaries and as parklands for recreational activities such as angling and birdwatching.

The 2011 Mirabella Cup was the first edition of a football (soccer) knockout-cup competition held between men's clubs in Victoria, Australia in 2011, the annual edition of the Dockerty Cup. It was to be unique in Australian football in that the competition was to integrate clubs from the national top level league, the A-League, with the state system below. However, the Football Federation Australia later withdrew their permission for Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart to take part in the competition while the first rounds were already ongoing, citing confusion of fans in marketing an as yet unannounced national knockout cup competition, which the FFA described in a press announcement announcing their reversal as still being in a stage of consideration, and not yet having a viable plan.

City West Water Corporation was a Victorian Government retail water corporation that provided drinking water, sewerage, trade waste and recycled water services in Melbourne’s central business district, inner and western suburbs. The service area included the local government areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Moonee Valley, Wyndham, Yarra and parts of Melton and Hume.

Geography of Melbourne

Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, Australia, is situated on the southeastern fringe of the Australian landmass and in the southern central part of the state. Melbourne covers an urbanised area of approximately 2,453 km²–larger than that of Sydney, Greater London and Mexico City, with population density roughly around 16 people per hectare on average.
