The Manitoba Historical Society is a historical society in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It was created in 1879 by an act of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, [1] and describes itself as "the oldest organization in western Canada devoted to the promotion of public interest in, and preservation of, the region’s historical resources". [2] The society publishes a journal called Manitoba History and presents an annual literary award called the Margaret McWilliams Award. The current president of the society is Gordon Goldsborough. [3]

Basket Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a provincially designated protected area in Manitoba. It is located north of Lake Manitoba and west of Hwy 6. It was designated under the Manitoba Wildlife Act by the Government of Manitoba in 1974. It is 7,260 hectares (28.0 sq mi) in size. The WMA is named after 'Basket Lake', a shallow lake surrounded by marsh, located in its southern portion.

Lee River Wildlife Management Area is a wildlife management area located east of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, Canada. It was established in 1997 under the Manitoba Wildlife Act. Initially the WMA was 1,187 hectares (4.58 sq mi) in size. In 2000, the WMA was protected to Endangered Spaces standards as part of Manitoba’s Protected Areas Initiative. The Margaret McWilliams Awards are an annual literary award in Manitoba, Canada presented by the Manitoba Historical Society. The society awards prizes in the categories of Scholarly History Book, Popular History Book, and Local History Book. Inaugurated in 1955, the award is among the oldest literary prizes in Canada and named after historian and author Margaret Stovel McWilliams. Past winners include Sarah Klassen, James Urry, Royden Loewen, Maurice Mierau, Roland Penner, Carol Matas and many others.

Bernice Wildlife Management Area is a wildlife management area located northeast of Melita, Manitoba, Canada. It is 65 hectares (0.25 sq mi) in size.
