The Doordarshan Telugu channel, DD Saptagiri, was the first TV channel launched in Hyderabad in the year 1974. After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state, DD Saptagiri was relegated to being telecast from Doordarshan Kendra Vijayawada for Andhra Pradesh while the existing network, renamed DD Yadagiri, was aimed at the Telangana populace
Visalaandhra was the first newspaper in the state, started from Vijayawada. DD Saptagiri previously known as DD-8 is a state-owned television channel telecasting in the Telugu language from a studio at Doordarshan Kendra Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. This studio was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, on 27 September 2014.

Malladi Chandrasekhara Sastry is a scholar and television personality who has specialized in the Vedas and Puranas texts in the Telugu and Sanskrit languages. His works have included commentaries on All India Radio during Bhadrachalam's Sitarama Kalyanam and Brahmotsavam festivals. For Ugadi day, he recites the Panchanga Sravanam. On television he hosts a show Dharma Sandehalu and Dharma Sukshmalu where he answers questions regarding the Purana and various aspects of Hinduism. The show is telecast on the Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel and formerly on the Doordarshan Saptagiri Channel. He is the principal of a college run by the trust named Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams where they do pravachan (lectures) on the Puranas. He received the Raja-Lakshmi Award in 2005, and has also been conferred the title of Purana Vachaspati.
Telugu-language radio was first broadcast from AIR Chennai, Egmore on 16 June 1938 at 16 08:15 pm when the Madras state Prime Minister Kurma Venkata Reddy Naidu and Chief Minister C. Rajagopalachari delivered inaugural speeches. In 1933 a 200 W radio station, started by postal employee Mahbub Ali had gone on-air from Hyderabad, but in 1935 the Nizam of Hyderabad took control of it, and most programs were broadcast in Urdu. In July 1939 it was renamed as Deccan Radio, On 1 April 1950 the Government of India took control from the Nizam and operated it as Akashavani. AIR vijayawada started on 1 December 1948.
