Nilotpal Basu is an Indian politician. He was a Member of Parliament,representing West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha the upper house of India's Parliament as a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). [1] He runs an NGO called Grameen Sanchar Society (GRASSO) which started a Mobile PCO scheme in West Bengal with state and BSNL support. The 14th Lok Sabha was convened after the 2004 Indian general election held in four phases during 20 April –10 May 2004,which led to the formation of first Manmohan Singh ministry (2004–2009). In 2012,he was expelled from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on charge of nepotism,anti-party activities &breach of discipline.
