Sabrina Dhowre Elba (born July 16, 1989) [2] is a Canadian model, media personality, and goodwill ambassador of the United Nations.
Dhowre was born in Montreal, Canada, and is of Somali descent. She was the second oldest of her five siblings, raised by a single mother, and moved to Vancouver at the age of 12. [3] [4] After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Simon Fraser University, earning her bachelor's degree in philosophy, with intentions of going to law school. [5] [6]
Sabrina became a model, and was featured in various magazines, such as British Vogue and Elle . [7] [8] She also was crowned "Ms. Vancouver" at a beauty pageant in 2014. [3] [7] Her agency is IMG Models in London. [1] [9]
In April 2020, she was appointed as a United Nations goodwill ambassador for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). [10] [11] Her mother first introduced her and her husband to the IFAD. [12] Sabrina later said that her mother, Maryam Egal, [8] was "probably the reason" she worked with IFAD. [13]
She worked with her husband Idris Elba, also a goodwill ambassador, with IFAD to help launch a new $40 million fund intended on lessening impact of COVID-19 on "farmers and food producers in rural areas". [14] Both later worked with the IFAD on projects in Kenya, Zambia, and Egypt, aimed at helping farmers, and combating hunger and climate change. [15] [16]
She also works with civil society organizations, such as Conservation International, on issues relating to the environment. [10] and Global Citizen. [17] At COP27, in November 2022, she was interviewed about the impact of climate change and the importance of empowering, and investing in, rural areas, to which she stated that there need to be long-term solutions, and said that impact of climate change in rural areas is "devastating". [13] In 2022, she became a co-chair of the European Board of Global Citizen. [17]
In January 2023, she and her husband later received the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where they were speakers. [12] [18] During the talk, she focused on food insecurity in Sudan, Haiti, Somalia, and elsewhere, and struggles faced by small farmers. [19] In February 2023, she attended the Time100 Impact Awards in Dubai with her husband. [20]
In February 2021, it was announced that the companies of Dhowre and her husband, Idris Elba, would be developing an Afrofuturist adult animated, sci-fi, series, tentatively titled Dantai, for Crunchyroll, a series said to be about a time when biotech has "created an ever-widening gap between the haves and have-nots". [21] [22] [23] The series was also described as an "afropunk sci-fi series" by Anime News Network. [24] In an April 2021 interview with Den of Geek, Idris Elba said the series is "mainly the brainchild" of Dhowre, who he described as a "super geek when it comes to anime." [25]

Idrissa Akuna Elba is an English actor, rapper, singer, and DJ. An alumnus of the National Youth Music Theatre in London, he is known for roles including Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire (2002–2004), DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther (2010–2019), and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013). Three Thousand Years of Longing is a 2022 fantasy romantic drama film directed and produced by George Miller. Written by Miller and Augusta Gore, it is based on the 1994 short story "The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye" by A. S. Byatt and follows a djinn who is unleashed from a bottle by a professor and tells her stories from his thousands of years of existence. The film is dedicated to Miller's mother Angela, as well as Rena Mitchell, relative of producer Doug Mitchell.
Rent-A-Girlfriend, abbreviated as Kanokari (かのかり), is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is a 2022 Japanese animated martial arts fantasy adventure film and the sequel to Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018). It is the twenty-first animated feature film based on the 1984–95 manga series Dragon Ball, the second to carry the Dragon Ball Super branding, the first to be produced mainly using CGI animation, as well as the fourth and final animated Dragon Ball film to be produced under the supervision of franchise creator Akira Toriyama before his death in March 2024.
