Sheikh Bhikhari Ansari was born in a weaver Ansari family at Lotwa-Khudia Village at Ranchi on 2 October 1819, from childhood, he used to take care of his family by doing his family profession,preparing coarse clothes and selling it in the local Haat market. He was a combatant in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He was a Dewan and general of Tikait Umrao Singh. He was the freedom struggler in the Indian rebellion in 1857.

He prevented East India Company forces from occupying Ranchi by cutting down Chutupalu Ghati trees in order to obstruct their advance prior to engaging Company forces. The British hanged him alongside Tikait Umrao Singh in a banyan tree of Chutupalu Ghati in Ramgarh in January 8 1858. General Mc Doland said at that time “Among the rebels, Bhikhari is the most dangerous and notorious mutineer.”

Early life

Sheikh Bikhari Ansari was born to Sheikh Buland Ansari on October 2, 1819 at the Lotwa-Khudia in Chotanagpur (now in Ranchi district, Jharkhand) in a weaver Ansari family. He spent his life in Khudia-Lotwa in Ormanjhi.

Raja Umrao Singh Bhati, also known as Rao Umrao Singh, was a notable Hindu Gurjar King of Dadri princely state during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The leader of the rebellion Bahadur Shah Zafar appointed the Nawab Walidad Khan of Mala-garh and Umrao Singh as the leader of Upper Doab. He successfully led a band of armed soldiers against the British troops at the coast of the Hindon River on 30th and 31st may and was able to bring back the rule that previously existed. He was the chief organiser of the fight against the British in Dadri, Bulandshahr and Gautam Budh Nagar.He and his family members were captured later by the Britishers on 26 September 1857 and then he was crushed by the elephants.

Vishwanath Shahdeo was the king of the Barkagarh estate and a rebel in the Indian rebellion of 1857. In 1855, he declared himself independent and defeated British forces in Hatia. He led rebels of Ramgarh Battalion in 1857. But defeated by Company forces with the help of king of Pithoria Jagatpal Singh. He was eventually caught and was hung from a tree along with his accomplices in 1858.

Tikait Umrao Singh was a king and freedom fighter. He was king of small kingdom Bandhgawa which is located in Ranchi district in Jharkhand. In Indian rebellion 1857, he and his brother Ghasi Singh played pivotal role in preventing East India Company force from occupying Ranchi.

Nilamber and Pitamber, freedom fighters from Jharkhand in eastern India, were brothers who led a revolt against the East India Company in 1857. They were born in a Chemo-Senya village to a family of a Bhogta clan of the Kharwar tribe in Latehar district. Their father, Chemu Singh, was Jagirdar. They decided to declare themselves independent of company rule, inspired by the Doronda Revolt in Ranchi led by Thakur Vishwanath Shahdeo and Pandey Ganpat Rai. Chero Jagirdar Devi Baksh Rai joined them.

The Barkagarh estate was a zamindari estate situated in modern-day Jharkhand, India, in erstwhile Lohardaga district. It was established by Ani Nath Shahdeo, the son of Nagvanshi king Ram Shah in 17th century. The capital of the estate was Satranji now located in south Ranchi.
