Stephen Hunter Flick (born June 21, 1949, in Evanston, Illinois) is an American retired sound editor with over 170 film credits.

The Academy Award for Best Film Editing is one of the annual awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Nominations for this award are closely correlated with the Academy Award for Best Picture. For 33 consecutive years, 1981 to 2013, every Best Picture winner had also been nominated for the Film Editing Oscar, and about two thirds of the Best Picture winners have also won for Film Editing. Only the principal, "above the line" editor(s) as listed in the film's credits are named on the award; additional editors, supervising editors, etc. are not currently eligible.

The 60th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), took place on April 11, 1988, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles beginning at 6:00 p.m. PDT. During the ceremony, AMPAS presented Academy Awards in 22 categories honoring films released in 1987. The ceremony, televised in the United States by ABC, was produced by Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and directed by Marty Pasetta. Actor Chevy Chase hosted the show for the second consecutive year. Two weeks earlier, in a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on March 27, the Academy Awards for Technical Achievement were presented by host Shirley Jones.

Gordon Jennings, A.S.C. was an American special effects artist. He received seven Academy Awards and was nominated for eight more in the same category. After starting 1919 in Hollywood as camera assistant he worked from 1932 until 1953 on the visual and special effects of more than 180 films. His older brother was cinematographer Devereaux Jennings (1884-1952), who filmed, for instance, Buster Keaton's monumental The General in 1926.

Roger Heman was an American sound engineer. He won an Academy Award for Best Sound and was nominated for another one in the same category. His father was also a sound engineer and also won an Academy Award, for Best Effects, Special Effects for Crash Dive.

Farciot Edouart, ASC was a film special-effects artist and innovator perhaps best known for his work with process photography, also known as rear projection.

Bruce Nicholson is a special effects artist who received the Special Achievement Academy Award in 1980 for the visual effects of the film The Empire Strikes Back, which he shared with Brian Johnson, Richard Edlund and Dennis Muren. He won his first competitive Oscar for Raiders of the Lost Ark at the 1981 in the category of Best Visual Effects, where he shared his award with Richard Edlund, Kit West and Joe Johnston. He got one more Oscar nomination, for the 1982 for the film Poltergeist, which lost to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Daniel Charles Striepeke was an American makeup artist who was nominated for two Academy Awards and who has often done make-up on Tom Hanks films. With a 40-year career he did makeup on over 100 films. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Awards in 2004. He also worked on TV shows such as Lost in Space.

Richard L. Anderson is an American sound effects editor, best known for Raiders of the Lost Ark. He has been nominated twice for sound editing, and received a Special Achievement Academy Award in 1981. He has nearly 140 film credits since his start in 1972.

Richard Shorr was an American sound editor who was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing. He was nominated for Die Hard, which he shared the nomination with Stephen Hunter Flick. The nomination was at the 61st Academy Awards.

George Watters II is an American retired sound editor with more than 80 feature film credits. He has won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing twice, for The Hunt for Red October (1990) and for Pearl Harbor (2001).

Cecelia Hall is an Oscar winning sound designer and sound editor. She was the first woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Sound Effects Editing for Top Gun and went on to win the Oscar for The Hunt for Red October, a film for which she also received a British BAFTA nomination for Best Sound.
