The Systematic and Evolutionary Biogeographical Association (SEBA) promotes an open and diverse international biogeographical community by assisting in sharing biogeographical information. Enhancing communication between biogeographers of all countries, SEBA contributes to the development of the theory and practice of systematic and evolutionary biogeography. [1]

SEBA was established in 2006. It is a non-profit organization and a scientific member of the International Union of Biological Sciences.

SEBA promotes the International Code of Area Nomenclature (ICAN), a standardized system of biogeographical reference.

In biology, taxonomy is the scientific study of naming, defining (circumscribing) and classifying groups of biological organisms based on shared characteristics. The International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) is an organization established to promote an understanding of plant biodiversity, facilitate international communication of research between botanists, and oversee matters of uniformity and stability in plant names. The IAPT was founded on July 18, 1950, at the Seventh International Botanical Congress in Stockholm, Sweden. Currently, the IAPT headquarters is located in Bratislava, Slovakia. The International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal covering research in the field of microbial systematics that was established in 1951. Its scope covers the taxonomy, nomenclature, identification, characterisation, culture preservation, phylogeny, evolution, and biodiversity of all microorganisms, including prokaryotes, yeasts and yeast-like organisms, protozoa and algae. The journal is currently published monthly by the Microbiology Society.

The International Code of Area Nomenclature (ICAN) was proposed by a group of few biogeographers to provide a universal naming system or nomenclature for areas of endemism used in contemporary biogeography. There are other proposals to palaeobiogeographic areas. The ICAN also serves as the international standard rules for proposing and using "area of endemism" names.

In 1976 he gained a PhD from the University of Adelaide, studying long-term vegetation changes in arid zones of South Australia.
