Originally formed as a quartet of siblings, the band currently consists of Sydney, Noah, and Graham Sierota, following the departure of eldest sibling Jamie in 2016. Echosmith started first as "Ready Set Go!" until they signed to Warner Bros. Records in May 2012. They are best known for the song "Cool Kids", which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified triple platinum by the RIAA with over 1,200,000 sales in the United States and also double platinum by ARIA in Australia. The song was Warner Bros. Records' fifth-biggest-selling-digital song of 2014, with 1.3 million downloads sold. The band's debut album, Talking Dreams, was released on October 1, 2013.

As part of the staggered release of the free downloads, from May 29, 2013, to June 11, 2013, one single per week was posted to the band's website as part of the sampler.

"Cool Kids" was originally released on May 31, 2013, as the iTunes Store Single of the Week and officially impacted United States radio the following year. The song subsequently became a sleeper hit, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving airplay on US modern rock, hot adult contemporary, and contemporary hit radio stations.

It is the first Avenged Sevenfold album to feature drummer Brooks Wackerman, who joined the band in November 2015 but was not revealed as previous drummer Arin Ilejay's official replacement until Ilejay's departure in 2015, because the band wanted to find a drummer that would "fit in".

The band originally intended to release their second album on this date, but pushed its release back.

"Over My Head" is a song recorded by American indie pop band Echosmith. The Sierota siblings co-wrote the song with Leroy Clampitt, Jeffrey David, Cara Salimando, and Paul Guy Shelton. Following the release of the EP Inside a Dream, "Over My Head" was released digitally on March 16, 2018 through Warner Bros. Records as the intended lead single of the band’s second studio album, however it was eventually scrapped from the album. It impacted hot adult contemporary radio on March 19, 2018.

Acoustic Dreams is the second extended play by indie pop band Echosmith released June 10, 2014, on LP, CD, and digital download. It includes acoustic versions of four tracks from Talking Dreams, as well as one exclusive track, "Terminal."
