The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oslo is the oldest and largest research and educational institution in medicine in Norway. It was founded in 1814, effectively as a Norwegian continuation of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Copenhagen, the only university of Denmark-Norway until 1811. It was Norway's only medical faculty until the Cold War era. [1] The faculty has around 1,000 employees, 2000 students and 1400 PhD candidates. The faculty is headquartered at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, with important campuses at Oslo University Hospital, Ullevål and several other hospitals in the Oslo area. [2]
The Faculty consists of three institutes and one center: Institute of Clinical Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Science, Institute of Health and Society and Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM). The Dean is the Faculty's chief executive. From 2011 to 2018, Frode Vartdal has been the elected dean. In September 2018, Ivar Prydtz Gladhaug was elected new dean at the Faculty of medicine for 2019-2022. His team consists of four Deputy Deans: Pro-dean of research Jens Petter Berg, Pro-dean of studies Elin Rosvold, Vice-dean of internationalization Hilde Nebb and Vice dean of postdoctoral and master programmes Eivind Engebretsen. The University of Oslo, until 1939 named the Royal Frederick University, is the oldest university in Norway, located in the Norwegian capital of Oslo. Until 1 January 2016 it was the largest Norwegian institution of higher education in terms of size, now surpassed only by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The Academic Ranking of World Universities has ranked it the 58th best university in the world and the third best in the Nordic countries. In 2015, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked it the 135th best university in the world and the seventh best in the Nordics. While in its 2016, Top 200 Rankings of European universities, the Times Higher Education listed the University of Oslo at 63rd, making it the highest ranked Norwegian university.
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. that was established in 1876. It represents medical schools, teaching hospitals, and academic and scientific societies, while providing services to its member institutions that include data from medical, education, and health studies, as well as consulting. The AAMC administers the Medical College Admission Test and operates the American Medical College Application Service and the Electronic Residency Application Service which facilitate students applying to medical schools and residency programs. Along with the American Medical Association, the AAMC co-sponsors the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for all U.S. MD-granting medical education programs.
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is a public medical school in Charleston, South Carolina. It opened in 1824 as a small private college aimed at training physicians. It is one of the oldest continually operating schools of medicine in the United States and the oldest in the Deep South. The school's main building was designed by Charleston architect Albert W. Todd.
The Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a public research university located in Guanshan Subdistrict, Hongshan District, Wuhan, Hubei province, China. As a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China, HUST is a Project 985 and Class A Double First Class University. HUST manages Wuhan National Laboratories for Opto-electronics (WNLO), which is one of the five national laboratories in China. HUST is also one of four Chinese universities eligible to run the national laboratory and the national major science and technology infrastructure. Huazhong University of Science and Technology was one of two Chinese universities awarded with the University Leadership Award by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and elected as "China's Top Ten Research Institutions" by the academic journal Nature, called "The epitome of the higher education development of People's Republic of China".
Poznan University of Medical Sciences is a prominent Polish medical university, located in the city of Poznań in western Poland. It traces its beginnings to the foundation of Poznań University in 1919, and was formed as a separate institution in 1950. It gained the status of uniwersytet in 2007.
Ayub Medical College is a leading public medical institute located in Abbottabad, Pakistan. It is one of the medical colleges affiliated to Khyber Medical University. AMC is home to 1,500 students in the MBBS and BDS programs, with clinical rotations at Ayub Teaching Hospital. Faculty members hold appointments at basic sciences and clinical departments. There are 212 full-time faculty members: lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors and professors.
The Ohio State University College of Medicine is the medical school at The Ohio State University and is located in Columbus, Ohio. The college is nationally recognized as a top institution in both education and research, as reflected by rankings in U.S. News & World Report. In 2009, its two primary teaching hospital were ranked as one of the best hospitals in the U.S. in 10 different specialties; and named to U.S. News & World Report's select honor roll of U.S. hospitals.
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) is a private graduate medical school in Manhattan, New York City. Chartered by Mount Sinai Hospital in 1963, it is the academic teaching arm of the Mount Sinai Health System, which manages eight hospital campuses in the New York metropolitan area. Ranking 18th in the country for biomedical research, it leads the country in neuroscience research funding from the National Institutes of Health (#1), receiving $31.2 million in 2018. It attracted $348.5 million in total NIH funding in 2018.
The University of Kansas Medical Center, commonly referred to as KU Med or KUMC, is a medical campus for the University of Kansas. KU Med houses the university's schools of medicine, nursing, and health professions, with the primary campus in Kansas City, Kansas. Other campuses are located in Wichita and Salina, Kansas, and is connected with the University of Kansas Hospital.
The University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine—known as the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM)—is an accredited medical school located in Los Angeles, California, United States. The school was renamed in 2001 in honor of media mogul David Geffen who donated $200 million in unrestricted funds. Founded in 1951, it is the second medical school in the UC system, after the UCSF School of Medicine.
The University of Virginia School of Medicine is the graduate medical school of the University of Virginia. The school's facilities are on the University of Virginia grounds adjacent to Academical Village in Charlottesville, Virginia. Founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson, UVA SoM is the tenth oldest medical school in the United States, and is consistently ranked among the top quartile of research-oriented medical schools by U.S. News and World Report, and as of 2020, is ranked sixth in the nation in primary care. The School of Medicine confers Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, and is closely associated with both the University of Virginia Health System and Inova Health System.
Georgetown University Medical Center is a biomedical research and educational organization that responsible for over 80% of Georgetown University's sponsored research funding and is led by Edward B. Healton, MD, the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences and Executive Dean of the School of Medicine.

The Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies is a research centre in Oslo, Norway, and Norway's national research institution in violence and sexual abuse; disaster management, terrorism, armed conflicts and traumatic stress; and forced migration and refugee health research. It is interdisciplinary and employs experts mainly in psychology, psychiatry, and the social sciences. In addition to carrying out research and related activities, the institute advises the Government of Norway in its areas of expertise and has some official emergency management functions at the national level. NKVTS has 101 employees.

It is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oslo and is one of the largest medical research institutions in Europe.
Kåre Ingmar Berg, MD was a Norwegian professor in medical genetics, physician-in-chief and well-cited researcher.
Ole Petter Ottersen is a Norwegian physician and neuroscientist. He serves as the Rector of Karolinska Institute in Sweden, and took office in August 2017. Ottersen has been professor of medicine at the University of Oslo since 1992 and served as the university's directly elected Rector from 2009 to 2017.

Eivind Engebretsen is a Norwegian researcher in the philosophy of medicine. He is a full professor of interdisciplinary health science at the Institute of Health and Society (HELSAM) at the University of Oslo. From 2019 to 2022 he is the Vice-Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Faculty of Medicine. In 2017 he was elected a fellow and a group leader at the Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
Ole Mathias Sejersted is a Norwegian medical doctor, professor emeritus at the University of Oslo.
