Yasser Mohammed Hefny (born 8 February 1989) is an Egyptian modern pentathlete. Hefny has won many international competitions including the youth world championship of pentathlon in 2005 and 2007, [1] and later the world champion of speedball in Paris.[ citation needed ]

Early life

His love of sports began when he started swimming in the school of el Zohoor club, and at the age of 6 he joined the speedball school in the same club. After two years, Yasser decided to go competitive and joined the boys swimming and speedball teams.

At the age of 11, Hefny have decided to find a new competition to challenge himself so he joined the modern pentathlon team in 6 October club. At the age of 12, he was chosen to join the Egyptian national team of modern pentathlon and began his international achievements by winning his first international title in the biathlon world championship in 2004 in Germany.

Recent accomplishments

Hefny won many international championships, including the world championships in 2005 and 2007 at the age of 16 and 18. He also became the 2008 world champion of speedball in Paris, France, setting a new record of 570.[ citation needed ]

In 2012, he competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. [2] [3]

Katherine Fiona “Kate” Allenby MBE is a British modern pentathlete who competed in two Summer Olympics, taking the bronze medal at the 2000 Games and placing in 8th place in 2004. The modern pentathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held from 11 to 12 August 2012. The men's and women's events each involved 36 athletes. The venues for the events were the Copper Box (fencing), the Aquatics Centre (swimming), and Greenwich Park.

Nicholas Lloyd Woodbridge is a British modern pentathlete. The modern pentathlon includes the disciplines of shooting, swimming, fencing, equestrian, and cross country running. Woodbridge competed for Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics, in Beijing, China, and finished 25th in the men's modern pentathlon. He also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. where he finished in 10th place despite being ranked 3rd in the world. In 2013 he achieved his best career result when he took the silver medal in the World Championships.

Egypt competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012, sending one of its largest delegations ever. A total of 110 Egyptian athletes participated in 83 events across 20 sports, with more women taking part than ever before. The nation's flagbearer in the opening ceremonies was Hesham Mesbah, a judoka who was Egypt's only medalist at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Egypt won two medals during the course of the Games: Alaaeldin Abouelkassem earned silver in the men's foil, becoming the first competitor from an African nation to win a fencing medal, while Karam Gaber captured silver in the men's 84 kg Greco-Roman wrestling event. For each gender 36 athletes qualified for the Games, a maximum of two athletes per gender could qualify from any nation. Qualification methods were the same for both the men's and women's events.

Samantha Murray is an English modern pentathlete. She won the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and the bronze medal at the 2012 World Championships. In 2014, she won individual gold and team silver medals at the 2014 World Championships. In 2015, Murray reached world number #1 in the Modern Pentathlon World Rankings after taking Gold at the USA World Cup followed by a 5th place at the Berlin World Championships. Murray finished in 8th Place at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Joshua Riker-Fox is a four-time Pan American Games modern pentathlete from Canada. He is also a four-time Canadian national champion, and a bronze medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Leila Gyenesei is a Hungarian modern pentathlete and cross-country skier. She is a five-time medalist at the World Championships, and is currently ranked no. 19 in the world by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM). She is also the daughter of István Gyenesei, former Minister of Local Government and chairman of the Association for Somogy party.
