Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt like a basketball court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor football.
The 1998 CONCACAF Women's Championship was the fourth staging of the CONCACAF Women's Championship, the international women's association football tournament for North America, Central America and Caribbean nations organized by CONCACAF. The final stage of the tournament took place at Etobicoke and Scarborough in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Canada took the sole automatic qualifying place for the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup by finishing first. The runner-up, Mexico, qualified after defeating Argentina in a two-leg playoff in December 1998.

It was first held in 1964 and was organized by Asociación Mundial de Futsal (AMF) as "Sudamericano". The tournament was also a qualifier for the AMF Futsal World Cup. The AMF organised the championship until 1989.

The 2011 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship was expanded to 12 teams beginning in 2011. The tournament determined the four CONCACAF teams that participated at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Colombia. In addition, the top three finishers from Central America or the Caribbean, in addition to hosts Mexico, qualified to participate at the 2011 Pan American Games. The Executive Committee approved that for men's U-20 championships all three North American teams again qualified automatically for the finals. Central America received four berths, and the Caribbean received five.

Twenty-eight national teams entered the qualification for 6 spots, but three withdrew before playing any match. The qualification was organised by CONCACAF, the Central American Football Union (UNCAF), and the Caribbean Football Union (CFU). Because the 2014 CONCACAF Women's Championship also served as the CONCACAF qualifying tournament for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, the Championship qualification also served as the first World Cup qualifying stage. Martinique and Guadeloupe were not eligible for World Cup qualification, as they were only members of CONCACAF and not FIFA.

The venue was Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG in Guatemala City. The competition was won by Brazil, winner of all the editions disputed until then. Iran's Niloufar Ardalan notably defied a travel ban to take part in the 2015 tournament after her husband did not approve of her leaving Iran.

The 2021 CONCACAF Futsal Championship was the 7th edition of the CONCACAF Futsal Championship, the quadrennial international futsal championship organised by CONCACAF for the men's national teams of the North, Central American and Caribbean region. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala between 1–10 May 2020. However, on 19 March 2020, CONCACAF announced the decision to postpone the tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 11 February 2021, CONCACAF confirmed Guatemala as host and that the dates are going to be May 3–9, 2021.
