The 2008 WNBA season was the 12th season for the New York Liberty. The first ever outdoor professional basketball game was held at Arthur Ashe Stadium between the New York Liberty and the Indiana Fever. Over 19,000 fans attended the game.

The Liberty Outdoor Classic was the first regular-season professional basketball game played outdoors. It was played between the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball Association on July 19, 2008, as part of the 2008 Women's National Basketball Association regular-season schedule and the New York Liberty's home schedule. The game was held at Arthur Ashe Stadium, part of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center located within Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Flushing, New York, and was the first non-tennis sporting event held in that venue. A portion of the proceeds from the game went to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Mac Cearbhaill is a Gaelic Irish clan belonging to the Three Collas kinship group, who were during the 11th and 12th centuries, kings of Airgíalla. Their name has been Anglicised as MacCarroll, Carroll, Carvill, MacCarville and various other spellings. The clan are associated especially with south-eastern Ulster and northern Leinster. They have numerous descendants in County Monaghan, County Louth, County Down, County Tyrone and elsewhere. In later times they were known as prominent musicians. The family lost out during the Norman invasion of Ireland, though their kinsmen the Mac Mathghamhna and Mag Uidhir hung on for longer.

The 2018 WNBA season of the Minnesota Lynx was their 20th season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Lynx finished the 2017 season with a record of 27–7, finishing first in the Western Conference and qualifying for the playoffs, before ultimately beating Los Angeles in the WNBA Finals to win their league-tying best fourth championship.
