The 2009 Pan-Pacific Championship was the second edition of the Pan-Pacific Championship. It was held in February 2009 in Carson, California, United States and featured the champions from the Chinese Super League and K-League, J. League Cup winners, and the hosts, Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

The Galaxy faced the Japanese representative, Oita Trinita, in the semi-final stage for the second successive year after facing Gamba Osaka in the 2008 competition, [1] and this time they won the match. In the other semi-final, Korean side Suwon Samsung Bluewings beat Shandong Luneng Taishan of China.

Oita Trinita beat Shandong Luneng 2–1 to finish third in the tournament and Suwon Bluewings won the trophy after a 4–2 penalty shootout win over the Galaxy.

The 2008 edition of the J. League Cup, officially the 2008 J.League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup, sponsored by Nabisco began on March 20. The top team in each of the four qualifying group automatically qualified for the quarter-finals along with the best two remaining runners-up. Both Gamba Osaka and Kashima Antlers received a bye to the quarter-final stage due to their participation in the group stage of the Asian Champions League.

The Hawaiian Islands Invitational was an inter-confederation association football tournament that was founded in 2007, as the Pan-Pacific Championship. The tournament consisted of four teams, who contested a knock-out style competition that spanned three days.

Suwon Samsung Bluewings is a South Korean professional football club based in Suwon, South Korea, who currently play in the K League Classic. Suwon Samsung Bluewings' first participation in Asian competition was during the 1999 season, when they competed in the Asian Club Championship, their first match was against PSIS Semarang of Indonesia.

K League stated in its official website that this match is one of classic football rivalries in the league. The match takes place between the two professional K League Classic teams in Seoul National Capital Area; Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma and Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

The 2009 Suwon Samsung Bluewings season was the Suwon Samsung Bluewings' fourteenth season in the South Korean K-League. The club participated in the K-League, League Cup, Korean FA Cup, Pan-Pacific Championship and the Champions League as the winners of the previous year's K-League.

The 2008 K League Championship was the twelfth competition of the K League Championship, and was held to decide the 26th champions of the K League. The top six clubs of the regular season qualified for the championship. The winners of the regular season directly qualified for the final, and second place team qualified for the semi-final. The other four clubs entered the first round, and the winners of the second round advanced to the semi-final. Each match was played as a single match, excluding the final which consisted of two matches. Suwon Samsung Bluewings became the champions by defeating FC Seoul 3–2 on aggregate in the final.

Chang'an Ford 2015 Chinese FA Super Cup was the 13th Chinese FA Super Cup. The match was sponsored by Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. and played at Yellow Dragon Sports Center on 14 February 2015, contested by Super League winners Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao and FA Cup winners Shandong Luneng Taishan. Shandong Luneng Taishan defeated Guangzhou Evergrande 5–3 in the penalty shoot-out, thus winning their first Chinese FA Super Cup title, and Guangzhou lost for three consecutive years.

The 2018 season was Kashima Antlers's 26th consecutive season in the J1 League since professional football was established in Japan in 1993. In addition to the domestic league, the club also competed in the Emperor's Cup, J.League Cup, and AFC Champions League. They won the latter trophy securing their first ever Champions League trophy in their first appearance in the final.

The 2020 Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao season is the 67th year in Guangzhou Evergrande's existence and its 53rd season in the Chinese football league, also its 31st season in the top flight.

The 2022 season was Suwon Samsung Bluewings's 27th season in the K League 1 in South Korea. They competed in the 2022 K League 1 and the FA Cup.
