Wayne State was to begin its 13th season of women’s ice hockey on September 30, 2011. In its twelve existing seasons, the Warriors compiled a won-loss record of 138-209-29. In College Hockey America conference play, the program accumulated an all-time CHA mark of 48-59-7 (.452) in nine seasons. In 2007-08, Wayne State tied for the CHA regular-season title in 2007-08. Senior forward Alyssa Baldin was to serve as captain for the second consecutive year. Of note, Baldin was the Warriors active scoring leader. Wayne State was the only Division I women’s program in Michigan.

The 2008 Wayne State Warriors football team represented Wayne State University in the 2008 NCAA Division II football season. The Warriors offense scored 222 points while the defense allowed 161 points.

The 2011 NCAA Division II football season, part of college football in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association at the Division II level, began on September 1, 2011, and concluded with the NCAA Division II Football Championship on December 17, 2011 at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Alabama, hosted by the University of North Alabama. The Pittsburg State Gorillas defeated the Wayne State Warriors, 35–21, to win their second Division II national title.

Cameron Scott Jones is an American professional basketball player for Karhu Basket of the Korisliiga. He played college basketball for Northern Arizona University.

Alyssa Baldin is an elite women's ice hockey player who has also competed for the Canada women's national inline hockey team. With regards to Baldin's women's ice hockey career, she has competed at the university level in both the NCAA and CIS. Acquired by the Toronto Furies in the 2013 CWHL Draft, she was on the Clarkson Cup winning team in 2014.
