The team's head coach was Mike Riley, in his tenth straight season and twelfth overall. Home games were played at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, and they were members of the North Division of the Pac-12 Conference. The Beavers finished the season 9–4 and 6–3 in Pac-12 play; third place in the North Division and fourth overall. They were invited to the Alamo Bowl and were defeated by the Texas Longhorns.

On August 29, it was announced that the season opener against Nicholls State would be postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Isaac. Oregon State instead had their season opener against Wisconsin on September 8. [3] [4] The game was rescheduled for December 1.

The 2011 Pac-12 Conference football season began on September 1, 2011 with Montana State at Utah and UC Davis at Arizona State. The conference's first game was played on September 10 with Utah at USC, and the final game played was the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday, December 2. Oregon defeated UCLA to claim their third straight conference title. This is the first season for the conference as a 12-team league. In July 2011, Colorado and Utah joined the conference, at which time the league's name changed from the Pacific-10 Conference.

The 2011–12 Oregon State Beavers men's basketball team represented Oregon State University in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Head coach Craig Robinson was in his fourth year with the team. The Beavers played their home games at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon and are a member of the Pac-12 Conference. They finished with record of 21–15 overall, 7–11 in Pac-12 play. They lost in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Basketball tournament to Arizona. They were invited to the 2012 College Basketball Invitational where they defeated Western Illinois in the first round and TCU in the quarterfinals before losing to Washington State in the semifinals.

The 2012 Pac-12 Conference football season began on August 30, 2012 with Northern Colorado at Utah. The conference's first game was played on September 15 with #2 USC at #21 Stanford, and the final game played was the Pac-12 Championship Game on November 30, 2012. This is the second season for the conference as a 12-team league. Pac-12 champion Stanford was featured in the Rose Bowl, a BCS bowl, when they prevailed 20–14 against Big Ten Champion Wisconsin on January 1, 2013.

They were coached by Pat Casey and assistant coaches Marty Lees, Pat Bailey, and Nate Yeskie. They played home games in Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
