Erie Commodores FC is an American soccer team based in Erie, Pennsylvania which competes in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), a nationwide amateur league at the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The Mercyhurst Lakers, representing Mercyhurst University which is located in Erie, Pennsylvania, are composed of 24 teams in intercollegiate athletics, including men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, tennis, and water polo. Men's sports include baseball, football, and wrestling. Women's sports include bowling, field hockey, softball, stunt, and volleyball. The Lakers compete in the NCAA Division II and are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for all sports except ice hockey, which competes in NCAA Division I; bowling, a sport in which the NCAA holds a single all-divisions national championship, which competes in the East Coast Conference; men's lacrosse and stunt, both of which compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference; and water polo, a sport in which the NCAA holds single all-divisions national championships for men and women. The men's and women's ice hockey teams are members of Atlantic Hockey America, formed shortly after the 2023–24 season by the merger of the men's former home of the Atlantic Hockey Association and the women's former home of College Hockey America. Keefe has five championship victories and is the only person in arena football history to win ArenaCup (af2) and ArenaBowl (AFL) titles as both a player and a coach. As of the 2022 season, he is an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator with the Bay Area Panthers in the Indoor Football League.

The Mercyhurst Lakers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association hockey team that represents Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania under Head Coach Rick Gotkin. The team is currently a Division I hockey team playing out of the Mercyhurst Ice Center located on the school campus. The Mercyhurst Lakers started out as a club sport at the school, moving up to Division III, followed by Division II, and now plays Division I in Atlantic Hockey America, formed shortly after the 2023–24 season by the merger of the Lakers' former home, the Atlantic Hockey Association, with College Hockey America. After joining their step up into Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1998, the Lakers have won their conference tournament making NCAA tournament appearances in 2001, 2003, and 2005.

Emma Nuutinen is a Finnish ice hockey player, currently playing in the Naisten Liiga (NSML) with Kiekko-Espoo. As a member of the Finnish women's national ice hockey team, she participated in both the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics and won bronze at the 2018 Olympic Games.

Ian Wild is a professional Canadian football linebacker who is currently a free agent. Most of his professional career was played with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He played college football at Mercyhurst.

The Mercyhurst Lakers represented Mercyhurst University in CHA women's ice hockey during the 2017-18 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season.

Daniel Bertolini is an American baseball coach and former shortstop, who is the current head baseball coach at Youngstown State. He played college baseball at Mercyhurst University for coach Joe Spano from 2005 to 2008 before playing 1 season in the Frontier League in 2008. He was the head coach at Mercyhurst North East (2009–2016).

David Kotulski is an American former college football coach and player. He was as the defensive coordinator at Mercyhurst University from 2016 to 2019. Kotulski served as the head football coach at Bucknell University for one season, in 2002, compiling a record of 2–9. He played college football at New Mexico State University.
