The 2023 Los Angeles spree shootings are a series of fatal shootings that occurred in Los Angeles County, California in November 2023. [1] So far, four shooting deaths have been linked together by ballistic tests. [2] The suspect, Jerrid Joseph Powell, was arrested on December 2. [3]

Shootings

Jose Bolanos, a 37-year-old homeless man was found dead around 3 a.m. on Nov. 26 in an alley in South Los Angeles. [4]

The following day, Mark Diggs, a 62-year-old homeless man was shot while pushing a shopping cart around 5 a.m. near downtown. [4]

On the 28th, 42-year-old Nicholas Simbolon was followed driving to his home in San Dimas then was killed in a follow-home robbery and murder just before 7 p.m. [4] [5]

On the 29th, Shawn Alvarez, a 52-year-old homeless man, was shot in the Lincoln Heights around 2:30 a.m. [4]

On April 18, 2017, a racially motivated shooting spree occurred in Fresno, California, leaving three white people dead. The gunman, Kori Ali Muhammad, a black supremacist, was convicted of four murders and four attempted murders. Muhammad said he went on his shooting spree because of his hatred for white people and particularly white men. Muhammad fired off 17 shots, shooting and killing three men, shooting at and missing another three men, and shooting at a vehicle with passengers inside. The passengers of the vehicle were unharmed. All of Muhammad's victims were white.

Duane Keith "Keefe D" Davis is an American gang member. He was charged with involvement in the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur.

Michael Player was an American serial killer who committed a total of 10 murders in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Skid Row, earning him the nickname of The Skid Row Slayer. Since the mid-1970s, it was the third case of a serial killer who operated in the area.

Aeman Lovel Presley is an American serial killer who killed four people over four months in 2014, in Georgia's DeKalb and Fulton Counties. Presley fully admitted his guilt, and as a result of a plea agreement, he was given several terms of life imprisonment without parole.

In March of 2022 Gerald Brevard allegedly shot five homeless men in Washington, D.C., and New York City, wounding three and killing two. Shortly before midnight on March 13, 2022, the New York and District of Columbia police departments announced that they believed a single person was responsible for the attacks. The fatal shooting in New York City, caught on tape, shows a man inspecting a homeless man sleeping on a sleeping bag on a sidewalk cornering a building or outpost, then pointing a gun towards the man's upper body and opening fire.

Danny Figueroa, known as The Backwoods Sniper, was an American serial killer who shot and killed three people in Southern California within the span of two months in 1986. A self-described survivalist, he killed his victims in rural woodland areas in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. He pleaded guilty to three counts of murder in 1987 and was sentenced to 66 years to life in prison.

Ramon Alberto Escobar is a Salvadoran serial killer who killed seven people during a month-long killing spree between Texas and California in 2018, most of whom were homeless. The Stockton serial shootings are a series of fatal shootings that occurred in Stockton and Oakland, California between April 2021 and September 2022. The shootings have been linked together by ballistic tests, but police have not revealed if the same gun was used in every shooting. They also do not know how many people are involved with the shootings. On October 15, 2022, a Stockton man, Wesley Brownlee, was arrested in connection to the shootings. On December 27, Brownlee was charged with an additional five charges.

Alexander Hernandez is an American serial killer who murdered five people during a series of drive-by shootings in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area of California between March and August 2014. He targeted random people and dogs, murdering five people, injuring 11 others, and killing two dogs. He was later convicted of the crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

During the late night of February 11 and the early morning of February 12, 2024, three people opened fire from a vehicle in four separate locations in southeastern Los Angeles County. A total of four people were killed, including a teenager, and another teenager was injured. The perpetrators, 17-year-old Deair Delerence, 42-year-old Gary Garcia Jr., and 20-year-old Timberland McKneely are alleged gang members and apparently shot their victims at random. Another man, 18-year-old Josevian Mendoza, was charged with killing two men alongside McKneely on November 24, 2023 in unincorporated Los Angeles County and Cudahy.
