The 1963–64 season was the Royals 16th season in the NBA and its seventh in Cincinnati. The Royals finished in 2nd place with a 55–25 record, the second best record in the NBA. The team's outstanding roster included Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, Team Captain Wayne Embry, Jack Twyman, Arlen Bockhorn, Bob Boozer, Tom Hawkins, Adrian Smith, Bud Olsen, Larry Staverman and coach Jack McMahon . The team is noteworthy for having both the NBA MVP in Robertson and the NBA Rookie of the Year in Lucas, a rare occurrence in NBA history. The team played most of their home games at Cincinnati Gardens arena, but also hosted home games that season in Dayton, Lima, Columbus at Saint John arena and Cleveland at Cleveland Arena. In the playoffs the Royals defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in a 5-game series, but both Lucas and Olsen would be lost to injury. In the Eastern Conference Final, the Royals were eliminated by the Boston Celtics, who triumphed in 5 games.
Canfield Speedway is a half mile dirt oval racetrack that hosted (major) sanctioned auto racing from 1950 to 1964, but other associations ran until the late 1970s. There was also a 1/4 mile dirt racing surface that shared the front stretch with the 1/2 mile track. It was used until the track was closed to auto racing in 1973. Attendance varied from 30,000 people for larger events to 10,000 people for ones of less significance. The track is located at the Canfield Fairgrounds in Canfield, Ohio, and is still in use today, primarily during the Canfield Fair.
The Elma Roane Fieldhouse is a 2,565-seat arena in Memphis, Tennessee. It is the home of the University of Memphis Tigers women's basketball team. Prior to moving to the Mid-South Coliseum in 1966, it was also home to the men's basketball team as well. The arena opened in 1951, replacing the original Memorial Gymnasium, and is named after Elma Roane, a former coach and administrator of the Tigers women's teams who helped return women's sports to varsity status in 1972–73.

The biggest attraction is the annual Georgia National Fair that is held the 5th Thursday after Labor Day. It runs for 11 days. Other major events held here include the Georgia National Junior Livestock Show in February, and the Georgia National Rodeo, also in February.
