Air Marshal Allan Paul Marshall, OBE is a senior Royal Air Force officer, who since March 2024 has been Air and Space Commander.

Early life

Marshall holds an engineering degree from Pembroke College, Cambridge. [1]

RAF career

Marshall was commissioned into the Royal Air Force (RAF) in September 1991. [2] He served as officer commanding No. V (AC) Squadron. [1] He went on to become station commander at RAF Waddington in March 2016, [3] [4] and Head of Military Operations in the Ministry of Defence in December 2018. [5]

In February 2020 it was announced that he would be appointed to the post of Air Officer Commanding No. 1 Group with effect from March 2020. [6] On 22 November 2021, Marshall took up the post of Assistant Chief of Defence Staff (Operations & Commitments) in succession to Major General Charles Stickland. [7] He was promoted to air marshal on 8 March 2024, [8] as he was appointed as Air and Space Commander, succeeding Harvey Smyth. [9]

Marshall was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2014 New Year Honours. [10]

Personal life

Marshall is married to Air Vice-Marshal Suraya Marshall, and together they have two children. [11]

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen John Hillier, is a retired senior Royal Air Force officer, who served as Chief of the Air Staff from 2016 to 2019. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions in the Gulf in 1999 and was awarded the United States Bronze Star Medal for service in the Iraq War.
