A law school in the United States is an educational institution where students obtain a professional education in law after first obtaining an undergraduate degree.
Admission to the bar in the United States is the granting of permission by a particular court system to a lawyer to practice law in the jurisdiction and before those courts. Each U.S. state and similar jurisdiction has its own court system and sets its own rules for bar admission, which can lead to different admission standards among states. In most cases, a person is "admitted" or "called" to the bar of the highest court in the jurisdiction and is thereby authorized to practice law in the jurisdiction. Federal courts, although often overlapping in admission standards with states, set their own requirements for practice in each of those courts.

John F. Kennedy University was a private university based in California with offices in Pleasant Hill, San Jose in California; Natick, Massachusetts; and Willemstad, Curaçao. The State Bar of California is California's official attorney licensing agency. All attorney admissions are issued as recommendations of the State Bar, which are then routinely ratified by the Supreme Court. Attorney discipline is handled by the State Bar Office of Chief Trial Counsel, which acts as prosecutor before the State Bar Court of California.
California Pacific University was a private university originally founded in San Diego County, California. Its law school was originally located in Bakersfield, California. The university was aimed towards working professionals in business management and was recognized by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. The school of law was registered and approved by the California State Bar Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California.

The University of Northern California, Lorenzo Patiño School of Law (UNC) was a private law school located in Sacramento, California. UNC offered a part-time, four-year law program as well as a paralegal program. Law school registration was terminated during the June 28–29, 2013 meeting of the State Bar. As of June 30, 2013, UNC was no longer listed as a law school by the State Bar of California Committee of Bar Examiners and the University of Northern California's website removed the listing of the Juris Doctor as one of its academic programs.

California Southern University is a private, for-profit, university in Costa Mesa, California. California Southern University is currently a member of the American InterContinental University System. It offers associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs online in psychology, business and management, risk management and regulatory compliance, criminal justice, nursing, and education.
The University of La Verne College of Law is the law school of the University of La Verne, a private university in Ontario, California. It was founded in 1970 and is approved by the State Bar of California, but in 2023 is no longer accredited by the American Bar Association.
Taft Law School is an unaccredited, for-profit, private, and online law school in Santa Ana, California. It was founded in 1976 and operates through the Taft University System. The school offers Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) law degree programs.
Southern California Institute of Law (SCIL) is a private California registered but unaccredited law school located in Ventura, California. The Law School was established in 1986 and operated as a fixed facility law school, accredited by the State Bar of California for twenty-five years, with campuses in both Ventura and Santa Barbara, California, until June 1, 2020.
