Anderson Peters MBE (born 21 October 1997) is a Grenadian javelin thrower [4] and the 2019 and 2022 world champion in the event. He is a multiple time CARIFTA Games champion at the discipline and in 2016 earned a bronze medal at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, setting a new Grenadian national record and OECS record at the same time.
He gave the performance of the championships at the 2016 CARIFTA Games, a meet record of 78.28 m (256 ft 9 in), and was awarded the Austin Sealy Trophy. [5] In January 2017 it was announced that Anderson was given a full scholarship to Mississippi State University. [6] He started his season with a throw of 75.29m at the 2017 Bulldog Relays. [7]
At the 2017 edition of the Whitsuntide games at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium, Anderson improved his personal best distance in the Javelin Throw three times. With his final throw we achieved a distance of 81.23 Meters. [8] On 25 June 2017, he was able to further improve on his personal best and National Record with a throw of 83.36m at the Trinidad and Tobago NGC/SAGICOR/NAAA National Open Championships. This throw allowed him to achieve the qualifying standard for the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. At the 3rd OECS Track And Field Championships held at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium, Anderson further lifted his personal best with a throw of 84.81m. Anderson went on to attend the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London but was unable to advance beyond the qualifying round with a best effort of 78.99m.
On 23 March during his second outdoor competition of 2018 Anderson registered an 81.95m throw shattering Mississippi State's freshman record in the javelin by more than six meters. The throw moved him to the top of the NCAA leader board and a 4th place World Ranking. He was subsequently named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men's National Athlete of the Week. [9] He also earned Freshman of the Week honors from the Southeastern Conference. [10] He went on to become the Southeastern Conference champion in his event with a throw of 82.04m, a new meet record. On 29 May he was named the SEC Field freshman of the year. [11] After winning the Javelin competition NCAA championship with a new record of 82.82 he was given "All American" honors [12]
In August 2019, Peters won gold at the Pan American Games in the process setting a games record and national record. Peters also won Grenada's first ever Pan American Games gold medal. [13]
At the World Athletics Championships 2022, Peters successfully defended his world title, beating the Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra with three throws over 90 m. He won a silver medal for Grenada at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a throw of 88.64 m. [14]
On 13 August 2022, Anderson got severely injured after being beaten by five crew members of a party boat. [15] [16]
Peters was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 Birthday Honours for services to sports. [17]
Still recovering from his injury, he failed to make it into the final round of World Athletics Championships 2023 with a throw of 78.49 m in the qualification round. [18]

One athlete from India competed at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, thereby being the nation's first appearance at the modern Olympic Games. Olympic historians tend to separate Indian results from British ones despite India's lack of independence, in a similar manner to the separation of results of competitors from Australia before 1901. One athlete, Norman Pritchard, represented India in 1900.
Uwe Hohn is a retired German track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. He is the only athlete to throw a javelin 100 metres or more, with his world record of 104.80 m. A new javelin design was implemented in 1986 and the records had to be restarted, thus Hohn's mark became an "eternal world record". He coached Indian track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold in the men's javelin throw at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo.
Kirani James is a Grenadian professional sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. He won the 400 m at the World Championships in 2011, and the 2012 London Olympics. In the 400 metres, James also won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, thus becoming the first man to earn the full set of three medals in the centennial history of the event. He is Grenada's first and only Olympic medalist. He holds the Grenadian national record in both the 200 metres and 400 metres.
The CARIFTA Games is an annual athletics competition founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA). The games were first held in 1972 and consist of track and field events including sprint races, hurdles, middle distance track events, jumping and throwing events, and relays. The Games has two age categories: under-17 and under-20. Only countries associated with CARIFTA may compete in the competition.

In India, the sport of athletics was introduced during the period of the British Raj. The sport is governed at national level by the Athletics Federation of India, which was formed in 1946. Despite its large population, few Indian athletes have won a medal in a global or major championship. This began to change in the 21st century, when Indians started taking greater interest in athletics more generally and improved facilities for the sport began to be built at a local level. At a continental level, it has been among the more successful Asian nations, though some distance behind China and Japan.
Jakub Vadlejch is a Czech track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He is a three-time Olympian for the Czech Republic, having competed in 2012, 2016 and 2020, winning a silver medal in 2020. He also has represented his country six times at the World Championships in Athletics, winning the bronze medal in 2022 and 2023 and silver medal in 2017, and four times a competitor at the European Athletics Championships. He also won the 2016 IAAF Diamond League title.
Johannes Vetter is a German athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. His personal best of 97.76 m is the German record, and ranks him second on the overall list behind Jan Železný. Vetter currently trains under Boris Obergföll and is a member of LG Offenburg's track and field squad. He was previously with SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken and Dresdner SC.
Albert Reynolds is a Saint Lucian javelin thrower. Reynolds was born in Castries, and grew up in Babonneau.
Subedar Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete, who is the reigning Olympic champion and World champion in Men's javelin throw. He is the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin and the first Asian to win gold in his event at the World Championship. A Junior commissioned officer in the Indian Army, Chopra is the first track and field athlete to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics. He is also the first track and field athlete from India to win at the World Under-20 Championships, where in 2016 he achieved a world U20 record throw of 86.48 m, becoming the first Indian athlete to set a world record.
Lindon Victor is a Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon. He is the 2023 World bronze medalist and a two-time Commonwealth Games champion (2018–2022).
Colleen Felix is a Grenadian former track and field athlete who competed in the heptathlon. In 2009, she set the national record in that event. She is also a former national record holder in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 47.62m at Arizona State Invitational on 26 March 2011. This record was subsequently broken by Candesha Scott in 2016 at the Carifta Games. After an absence from competition, Colleen returned to competition in 2017. She took part in the revived Whitsuntide games and then the OECS Track and Field Championships which were both held at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Grenada.
Amanda Crawford is an American-born, Grenadian sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. In 2016, she represented Grenada at the CARIFTA Games and earned a silver medal in the 400m, in the under-18 girls' category. She was also a part of the women's 4X400m Relay team which secured a silver medal at the 2016 OECS Track & Field Championships with teammates Meleni Rodney, Kenisha Pascal and Kanika Beckles.
Vipin Kasana is an Indian athlete who competes in the Javelin throw. He participated in the 2014 Commonwealth Games which took place in Glasgow, Scotland. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games he finished fifth.
Arshad Nadeem is a Pakistani javelin thrower. He represents WAPDA in the domestic competition. He is the first Pakistani to qualify for the final of any track and field event at the Olympic Games and the World Athletics Championships. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he created a new national and Commonwealth Games record with a throw of 90.18m and became the first ever athlete from South Asia to breach the 90m mark. In 2023, he became the first ever Pakistani athlete to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships, by winning a silver medal.
The men's javelin throw event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 4 and 7 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. Approximately 35 athletes competed; the exact number depended on how many nations use universality places to enter athletes in addition to the 32 qualifying through distance or ranking.

India has participated in the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. Their first ever medal was a Bronze medal won by Anju Bobby George in 2003 in Paris; in the Women's long jump discipline.
The men's javelin throw at the 2023 World Athletics Championships was held at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest on 25 and 27 August 2023.
