Archery UK is a magazine devoted to the sport of archery in the United Kingdom. It is the official journal of Archery GB, [1] which has more than 40,000 members. The headquarters is in Hatfield, Herts. [2]

History and profile

The magazine was first published in 1997. The first colour issue was produced in summer 2005. Since then there have been a number of redesigns and the pagination has grown from 40 to 84. The magazine is published by the Archery GB, based at the Lilleshall National Sports and Conferencing Centre, Shropshire. The magazine is published quarterly and is part of the membership package. [1] It is also available online and in PDF format at the Archery GB website.

The first editor was Ann Shepherd. She was succeeded by Peter Jones and, in 2011, Jane Percival.

Home Nations Individual nations within the United Kingdom

Home Nations is a collective term with one of two meanings depending on context. Politically it means the nations of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom. In sport, if a sport is governed by a council representing the island of Ireland, such as the Irish Rugby Football Union, the term can refer to the nations of the constituent countries on the island of Great Britain and the Irish nation.

No United Kingdom national football team exists, as there are separate teams representing each of the nations of the United Kingdom in international football.

There are several different types of mass media in the United Kingdom: television, radio, newspapers, magazines and websites. The United Kingdom is known for its large music industry, along with its new and upcoming artists. The country also has a large broadcasting and film industry.

Athletes from Northern Ireland can choose to compete as part of Team Ireland instead. It has sent athletes to every Summer and Winter Games, since the start of the Olympics' modern era in 1896, including the 1980 Summer Olympics, which were boycotted by a number of other Western nations. From 1896 to 2020 inclusive, Great Britain & NI has won 916 medals at the Summer Olympic Games, and another 32 at the Winter Olympic Games. It is the only national team to have won at least one gold medal at every Summer Games, lying third globally in the winning of total medals, surpassed only by the United States and the former Soviet Union.

Play is a monthly magazine produced by Future Publishing in the United Kingdom, which reports on Sony's PlayStation product range. It had been published by Imagine Publishing but closed in 2016. It was resurrected as a replacement for the official UK PlayStation magazine in May 2021.

Target archery Most popular form of archery in which participants shoot at colored targets

Target archery is the most popular form of archery, in which members shoot at stationary circular targets at varying distances. All types of bow – longbow, barebow, recurve and compound – can be used. In Great Britain, imperial rounds, measured in yards, are still used for many tournaments and these have slightly different rules to metric (WA) rounds, which are used internationally. Archers are divided into seniors and juniors, with juniors being those under the age of 18.

Archery GB is the largest national governing body for the sport of archery in the United Kingdom. Archery GB is responsible for all levels of archery within the UK from elite to development level and supports over 40,000 members. Archery GB is the umbrella organisation for English Archery Association, Archery Northern Ireland, Scottish Archery and Welsh Archery Association. Under Archery GB are eight Regional Societies and many different county societies. It is affiliated to the World Archery Federation (WA); and is a member of the British Olympic Association. The society's motto is: "Union, Trueheart and Courtesie".

PlayStation Official Magazine – UK, generally abbreviated as OPM, is a magazine based in the United Kingdom that covered PlayStation news, originally created in Winter 2006. Although the first issue was distributed in three-month intervals, from Issue 2 onward, it became a monthly segment. From Issue 7 to Issue 84, the magazine came with a playable Blu-ray Disc; it primarily covered PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, PlayStation VR and the upcoming PlayStation 5 games and material. Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics Sporting event delegation

Great Britain, represented by the British Olympic Association (BOA), competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The United Kingdom was represented by the British Olympic Association (BOA), and the team of selected athletes was officially known as Team GB. Britain is one of only five NOCs to have competed in every modern Summer Olympic Games since 1896. The delegation of 547 people included 311 competitors – 168 men, 143 women – and 236 officials. The team was made up of athletes from the whole United Kingdom including Northern Ireland. Additionally some British overseas territories compete separately from Britain in Olympic competition.

The Great Britain men's Olympic football team is the men's football team that represents the United Kingdom at the Summer Olympic Games. The team is organised by the English Football Association (FA) as the men’s footballing representative of the British Olympic Association. The team only competes in the Olympic Games. In other international football tournaments, the Home Nations of the United Kingdom are represented by their own national teams, a situation which pre-dated the establishment of a GB team.

Great Britain womens Olympic football team

The Great Britain women's Olympic football team represents the United Kingdom in the women's football tournament at the Olympic Games. Normally, no team represents the whole of the United Kingdom in women's football, as separate teams represent England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The UK Compilation Chart is a record chart based on sales of multi artist compilation albums in the United Kingdom. It is compiled weekly by the Official Charts Company (OCC), and each week's Top 40 is published online on the official websites of the OCC, BBC Radio 1 and MTV, and in the magazines Music Week and UKChartsPlus.

Patrick Huston is a British Olympian archer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He captured three world championship titles under the youth level, and eventually competed as a member of the archery squad of Team GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio, losing the second round match to the eventual champion Ku Bon-chan of South Korea. Huston currently lives near Lilleshall National Sporting Centre and trains full-time under senior national coach Richard Priestman for Archery UK, while remaining a loyal founding member of East Belfast Archery Club. World ranking 57 at 2 July 2021.

Surfing in the United Kingdom

Surfing was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1929 when four Australian teenagers brought the sport to Cribbar, Britain. Earlier recorded instance of surfing in the UK may have happened in Bridlington in the 19th Century.
