Benjamin Turland (born 13 July 1998) is an Australian actor and dancer. Turland won the grand final of the revived Young Talent Time series with his dance group Lil' Banditz Krew, before going onto the semi-final of Australia's Got Talent . He later appeared as a dancer on The X Factor Australia and The Voice Australia . In 2014, he made a guest appearance in the drama series Love Child and played Jordan Walsh in Home and Away during 2016. From 2019 until 2022, Turland portrayed Hendrix Greyson in fellow Australian soap opera Neighbours . He also appeared in the spin-off Erinsborough High , and was nominated for Best Daytime Star at the Inside Soap Awards. After leaving Neighbours, Turland appeared in the television miniseries Riptide as Ethan Weston. He filmed a role in the 2023 thriller 13 Summers and joined the supporting cast of Paper Dolls. The Casting Guild of Australia named Turland as one of its 12 Rising Stars of 2023.

Early life

Turland grew up in Mittagong and Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. [2] [3] He has an older brother and sister. [3] Turland began dancing when he was three years old, and experienced some bullying as he was the only male dancer in his town. [3] He attended Bowral High School, where he became interested in acting. [2] [4] He later studied performing arts. [4]

Career

In 2012, Turland appeared on the revival of Young Talent Time with the all boys dance group Lil' Banditz Krew when he 12 years old. [5] The group won the grand final and then toured Australia. [6] Two years later, Turland made it to the semi-final of Australia's Got Talent . He later admitted that his experience with the show made him want to pursue an acting career. [6] He also appeared as a dancer on The X Factor Australia , and he choreographed a tour for the series winner. [7] In 2014, Turland guested in the first season of Nine Network drama Love Child . [4] He joined the recurring cast of soap opera Home and Away as foster child Jordan Walsh in 2016. [4] [8] Turland later appeared on The Voice Australia as a dancer. [7]

Turland appeared as Joey in the 2019 production of Saturday Night Fever at the Sydney Lyric. [3] [9] That same year, he joined the main cast of soap opera Neighbours as teenager Hendrix Greyson, the son of established character Pierce Greyson (Tim Robards). [4] His manager had asked him to send in a self-tape, but did not tell him that he was not what the producers was initially looking for. [10] Turland received an invitation to audition for the role and was flown to Melbourne for a chemistry read with Robards and Jemma Donovan (Harlow Robinson). Three days later, Turland was informed that he had the role. [10] Hendrix was described as an entitled brat with a "bad attitude". [4] Turland also appears as Hendrix in the online spin-off Erinsborough High . [11] In 2022, Turland received a nomination for Best Daytime Star at the Inside Soap Awards. [12]

Turland quit Neighbours in 2021 in order to pursue new roles and work overseas. [13] His decision came just months before the show was cancelled in early 2022. [13] Producers chose to kill his character off, and Hendrix dies after a failed lung transplant. [14] Turland described his last few weeks on set as "intense" and he was left exhausted. [13] Turland briefly appears as Hendrix in the serial's then-final episode broadcast on 28 July 2022. [15] After leaving Neighbours, Turland filmed the television miniseries Riptide . [16] He plays Ethan Weston, whose father dies in mysterious circumstances. It was filmed in five weeks at the Neighbours studios, Mount Eliza and the Dandenong Ranges. [16] Turland said his "troubled" character needs "validation and love" from his father, adding "I think it's a good way to tell stories, especially for young men who don't know how to process their emotions." [16]

Turland filmed a role in Jeremy Stanford's thriller film 13 Summers, which was shot in Hervey Bay in late 2022. Turland plays a "mysterious backpacker" who encounters the film's protagonists Ben (Nathan Phillips) and Vee (Hannah Levien). [17] He joined the supporting cast of the Network 10/Paramount+ series Paper Dolls as Eli in March 2023. The drama was filmed in Sydney. [18] [19] The series follows fictional girl group Harlow, who are formed on a reality television show. [18] Turland is also filming a role in Rebel Wilson's directorial debut feature The Deb. [19] In November 2023, the Casting Guild of Australia named Turland as one of its 12 Rising Stars of 2023. [20]

Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera Neighbours live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. Neighbours storylines primarily centre on the residents of the street, which was named after Jack Ramsay, the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay. A blackjack game between Jack and Sam Robinson determined whose name the street would be named after. Only six houses on the street are featured on a regular basis; numbers 22 to 32. Number 34 was featured for the only time in 2018. The cul-de-sac is at the end of a long street and the rest of the houses are on the other side of the main road which bisects it. The street behind Ramsay Street is named Mirrabooka Drive. A storyline within the show saw the name of the street nearly changed to Ramsbottom Street. Harold Bishop led a protest against it and won.

Lou Carpenter is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Tom Oliver. He made his first screen appearance on 30 March 1988. Oliver appeared for a brief time, having been initially contracted for six months, before leaving and returning in January 1992 as a regular cast member. In 1996, Lou was written out of Neighbours, a move that shocked Oliver as his character had become popular with fans. Neighbours viewers created petitions calling for his return and the strength of their reaction caused the producers to reconsider their decision and reinstate Oliver. Lou became one of the longest-serving continuous characters in the serial's history, having played the role for 24 years.

Scott Ian Major is an Australian actor and TV and film director, known for his roles as Peter Rivers in the 1994 television teen drama series Heartbreak High and Lucas Fitzgerald in soap opera Neighbours. After leaving Neighbours in 2013, Major returned to direct over 200 episodes of the serial. He has since gone on to direct episodes of Playing for Keeps, and two miniseries Lie With Me and Riptide. Major reprised his role as Rivers in the 2022 reboot of Heartbreak High.

Daniel Fitzgerald (<i>Neighbours</i>) Soap opera character

Daniel "Dan" Fitzgerald is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Brett Tucker. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 1 September 1999. Dan becomes a teacher at Erinsborough High and shares a house with fellow teacher, Tess Bell. He remained as a recurring character until 2000. Tucker returned on 30 October 2007 and became part of the regular cast. Dan re-joined the high school and he began a relationship with Libby Kennedy. In June 2009, it was announced that Tucker had quit the show and Dan departed on 1 December 2009. On 13 September 2010, Dan made a one-off appearance which was filmed prior to Tucker's departure in 2009. The character later appeared in a flashback broadcast on 4 July 2011, played by James Roach.

Neighbours marks her first regular television role, and she made her debut during the episode broadcast on 27 March 2018. Chloe is the sister of the established Brennan brothers, and had often been mentioned on-screen by her family prior to her arrival. Chloe is portrayed as "well-meaning", "carefree" and "fun-loving". She wants to get along with everyone and live her life to the fullest. Harlow Robinson is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Jemma Donovan. Harlow is introduced as an extension of the Robinson family, the secret daughter of Robert Robinson and the granddaughter of Paul Robinson. Donovan is also the real life daughter of Jason Donovan, who played Harlow's great uncle, Scott. Donovan auditioned for the role after a four-year break from acting and successfully got the role of Harlow, which producers then slightly tweaked to suit her. Donovan's casting announcement was made in March when she began filming, and she debuted on screens on 15 July 2019. Harlow is described as head strong, sensible and clever, and Donovan revealed that she liked her character. Donovan's co-star, Dennis, also explained that the character had some reservations about her new secret family initially. Harlow's early storylines involve a feud with Roxy Willis and a reunion with her mother, Prudence Wallace. Harlow's introduction was described as similar to Donovan's story of moving from London to Melbourne.

Neighbours: Erinsborough High is an Australian streaming television series produced for video on demand and catch up TV services My5 and 10 Play. It was released on 11 November 2019. The series is a spin-off of soap opera Neighbours. Featuring new and regular characters from the main show, the series follows a group of students at Erinsborough High School as they prepare for their final exams, and focuses on the various issues they are facing, as well as the disappearance of one of the students.

It was Leask's fifth audition for the show. The character was initially meant to only appear in a single episode, but Leask discovered that writers had plans to reintroduce the character the following year to coincide with producers' plans to bring in another busybody character. Leask made her debut on 2 December 2021 and returned in February the following year as a recurring character, as requested by the serial's executive producer, Jason Herbison.

He joined the main cast in his first ongoing television role. He made his first appearance during the episode broadcast on 13 September 2019. Hendrix was introduced as the estranged son of Pierce Greyson. His arrival led to further exploration of Pierce's backstory and established a new family unit in the serial.

Riptide is a 2022 British-Australian psychological thriller television series created by Jason Herbison and directed by Scott Major. It was broadcast over four consecutive days from 27 December 2022 on Channel 5 in the UK and aired from 28 June 2023 on Network 10 in Australia. The plot focuses on Alison Weston, whose husband Sean mysteriously disappears while surfing. Riptide stars Jo Joyner, Peter O'Brien, Ciarán Griffiths, David Berry, Ben Turland, and Asher Yasbincek. It was filmed in locations across the state of Victoria, including Melbourne and the Network 10 studios in Nunawading in August 2022.

Nicolette Stone is a fictional character from the Australian television soap opera Neighbours, played by Charlotte Chimes and Hannah Monson. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 15 July 2020. Chimes auditioned for the role at a time she felt creatively fulfilled owing to her work on another series. Despite her nonchalant approach, Chimes was invited to a second audition, which the then Sydney based actress had to perform over video-tape due to the COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions imposed in Australia. Chimes was successful and assumed the role of Nicolette, who writers created as the daughter of the heritage character, Jane Harris. From her introduction, Nicolette was portrayed as "straight talking" and "brash", unafraid to hurt other character's feelings. Nicolette is a lesbian and is confident with being open about her sexuality. Writers often used Nicolette's characterisation in her storylines. Writers created a fractured backstory between Nicolette and Jane, owed to Jane's request that Nicolette conceal her sexuality from her opinionated grandmother. Nicolette's early stories commonly featured her and Jane's journey to reconciliation. Writers further explored Nicolette's backstory with the introduction of her friend Audrey Hamilton, who had helped Nicolette commit fraud.

Mackenzie Hargreaves is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Georgie Stone. She made her first appearance on 30 August 2019. Mackenzie is the soap's first transgender character, added to the series after Stone wrote to executive producer Jason Herbison to pitch the character. She arrives as a new student at Erinsborough High School and is connected to the established Rebecchi family, who she knew prior to her gender transition. Following her initial guest storyline, Mackenzie was a central character in spin-off series Neighbours: Erinsborough High before being promoted to the regular cast of Neighbours in 2020. She remained with the series until its finale episode, broadcast on 28 July 2022, and reprised the role when the series resumed in 2023.
