Benson James Boone (born June 25, 2002) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. [4] Born and raised in Monroe, Washington, his career began when he started sharing his music on the social media platform TikTok, subsequently auditioning for American Idol . He later withdrew from the competition, but continued to gain popularity on TikTok, and subsequently signed to Night Street Records, the label of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds.

Boone's debut single, "Ghost Town", was released in October 2021, charting in 16 countries. He has since released multiple successful singles, including "In the Stars" and "Beautiful Things", the latter of which peaked at the top of the UK Singles Chart, his first number one single on a major music chart. [5] It also became his first song to reach the top five on the Billboard Hot 100. [6] His debut studio album, Fireworks & Rollerblades , was released on April 5, 2024.

Early life

Benson James Boone grew up with four sisters in Monroe, Washington. [7] [2] He attended Monroe High School and competed on the school's diving team. [8] He first discovered his musical talent when a friend asked him to play the piano and sing in their high school's battle of the bands his junior year even though he had no prior singing experience. [9] [8] Boone briefly attended Brigham Young University–Idaho before leaving after a semester to focus on singing. [9]

Boone drew early musical inspiration from attending a Jon Bellion concert, after which he began taking singing seriously. [1] He began posting singing videos to TikTok, and auditioned for season 19 of American Idol on a friend's recommendation in early 2021. [10] Though he was invited to advance to the show's Hollywood week, he was not present, as Boone withdrew from the show after making it to the Top 24 to consider his career. [11] [12]

Boone began sharing snippets of his original music on TikTok, where he amassed 1.7 million followers in advance of his first single release. He caught the attention of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds, who signed Boone to his record label Night Street Records in partnership with Warner Records. The signing was announced on October 15, 2021, alongside the release of Boone's first single "Ghost Town". [4] Boone played drums, guitar, and piano on the recording, in addition to designing the artwork for the single. [13] [12] Boone performed "Ghost Town", which charted in 13 countries including the US on the Billboard Hot 100, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show , The Kelly Clarkson Show , and Late Night with Seth Meyers . Boone released his second single "Room for 2" on February 18, 2022. [17]

In May 2024, Taylor Swift announced on social media that Boone was one of three artists who were opening for the London shows of the Eras Tour alongside Paramore, Boone's being the June 23 show, with Mette and Griff opening for the June 21 and 22 shows respectively. [18]
