William Andrew Hazel, Jr. is the current Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources. He was first appointed in 2010 by Governor Bob McDonnell and was reappointed in 2014 by Governor Terry McAuliffe. He served previously as assistant orthopedic surgeon for the Washington Redskins and as team physician for D.C. United soccer club; he was also a member of the American Medical Association's Board of Trustees. [1] [2] [3]

The incumbent Governor, Democrat Tim Kaine, was not eligible to run due to term limits established by the Virginia Constitution, though others in the state's executive branch were not restricted. Republican Bob McDonnell was elected as Governor as part of a Republican sweep. Republican Bill Bolling was reelected as lieutenant governor, and Republican Ken Cuccinelli was elected as attorney general. The winners were inaugurated on January 16, 2010, and served until January 11, 2014.

Levar Marcus Stoney is an American politician from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the 80th mayor of Richmond, Virginia. He served as the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia from 2014 through 2016, the youngest member of Governor Terry McAuliffe's administration.

Kelly Thomasson Mercer is an American Democratic politician, who has served as the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia since April 2016. Initially appointed by Governor Terry McAuliffe, she has continued as Secretary under the administration of Governor Ralph Northam. Prior to holding her current position, Thomasson served as Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth under Governor McAuliffe.

Basil Gooden

Basil Ivanhoe Gooden is an American politician who served as the 3rd Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry under Governor Terry McAuliffe. He became the first African-American to serve in this position and during his tenure from September 2016 until January 2018, he was the only black Secretary of Agriculture in any state in the United States. In his capacity as Secretary, he worked to support Governor McAuliffe's mission of building a new Virginia economy in agriculture and forestry, two of Virginia's largest private industries with an annual economic impact of $91 billion on the Commonwealth.

Molly Joseph Ward is a former Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources. She was appointed to this position by Governor Terry McAuliffe in 2014. Previously, she served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at The White House and as Mayor of Hampton, Virginia from 2008 to 2013.

James Donald Duffey, Jr. was the Virginia Secretary of Technology from 2010 to 2014, serving under Governor Bob McDonnell. He previously spent 24 years at Electronic Data Systems and was vice chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.

Carlos Hopkins

Carlos LeMont Hopkins is an American attorney and National Guard soldier. Previously serving as counsel to Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, he was selected to serve as Virginia Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs following the departure of John C. Harvey, Jr. in 2017, and was retained in that post when Ralph Northam took office as Governor in January 2018.
