The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India. It consists of 836 islands grouped into two island groups: the northern Andaman Islands and the southern Nicobar Islands, separated by a 150 km (93 mi) wide channel. Port Blair is the capital and largest city of the territory, located about 1,190 km (740 mi) from Chennai and 1,255 km (780 mi) from Kolkata in mainland India. The islands are sandwiched between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east with the northern-most point located 901 km (560 mi) from the mouth of Hooghly river. Indira Point at 6°45’10″N and 93°49’36″E at the southern tip of Great Nicobar is the southernmost point of India.
Manoranjan Bhakta was an Indian politician and a leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He was first elected as Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1977 to the 6th Lok Sabha. In total, he served eight terms as Member of Parliament for this constituency, seven of which were consecutive from 1977–1999. In 2010, after being denied a ticket in an election, he left the INC and later joined the Trinamool Congress.

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi is an Indian politician who served as the 28th Governor of Assam from 2017 to 2023 and the Governor of Nagaland from 2021 to 2023 and the Governor of Mizoram on 2019. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Mukhi served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 2016 to 2017, Minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education, Government of Delhi in the Swaraj ministry from 1998 to 1998 representing Janakpuri Assembly constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 2015.
The 2009 Indian general election in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, occurred for 1 seat in the state. BJP candidate Bishnu Pada Ray won the election from the only seat. Ray defeated Congress candidate Kuldeep Rai Sharma.

The Andaman Tamils are Tamil-speaking people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, commonly known as the Madrasi. There are three groups. The first are those who migrated from Tamil Nadu in search of livelihood and are found in almost all the islands where human beings are settled. The second are Tamil-speaking repatriates from Myanmar who migrated after the military junta came to power in the then Burma. The third group are Tamil-speaking repatriates from Sri Lanka who migrated after ethnic clashes began there. The population of the first group is largest and is still swelling as the migration continues.

He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. He was a student of Church Mission High School and Meerut College.

He was nominated as Member of Parliament to 3rd Lok Sabha representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands the lower house of India's Parliament as a member of the Indian National Congress. He was also member and Vice-Chairman of the Port Blair Municipal Board.
The 2019 Indian general election in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, held for the one seat in the Islands. Congress candidate Kuldeep Rai Sharma won the election from the only seat. Sharma defeated BJP candidate Vishal Jolly.
The 2024 Indian general election is being held in Uttar Pradesh in all seven phases from 19 April to 1 June to elect 80 members of the 18th Lok Sabha, with the results declared on 4 June. Bye-polls for Dadraul, Lucknow East, Gainsari, and Duddhi assembly constituencies were held alongside this election.
The 2024 Indian general election in Andaman and Nicobar Islands was held on 19 April 2024 to elect the sole member of 18th Lok Sabha from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
