Edwin Meese III is an American attorney,law professor,author and member of the Republican Party who served in official capacities within the Ronald Reagan gubernatorial administration (1967–1974),the Reagan presidential transition team (1980–81) and the Reagan administration (1981–1985). Following the 1984 election,he was considered for the position of White House Chief of Staff by President Reagan,but James Baker was chosen instead. The Alabama Republican Party is the state affiliate of the Republican Party in Alabama. It is the dominant political party in Alabama. The state party is governed by the Alabama Republican Executive Committee. The committee usually meets twice a year. As of the February 23,2019 meeting in Birmingham,the committee is composed of 463 members. Most of the committee's members are elected in district elections across Alabama. The district members are elected in the Republican Primary once every four years,with the most recent election for the committee having been on June 5,2018. The new committee takes office following the general election in November 2018. In addition,all 67 county GOP chairmen have automatic seats as voting members. The state chairman can appoint 10 members. Each county committee can appoint bonus members based on a formula that theoretically could add 312 seats,although that formula currently calls for only about 50 seats.

On August 26,2019,Petersen announced his resignation from the FEC,effective August 31. In September 2019,Petersen joined the law firm Holtzman Vogel Josefiak Torchinsky as a partner where he practices political law.
Rebecca White Berch is a former justice of the Arizona Supreme Court. On July 1,2009,she began a five-year term as chief justice,a position to which she was elected by her peers on the court. As chief justice,she succeeded Ruth McGregor. She concluded her service as Arizona's chief justice in July 2014 when she passed the gavel to new Chief Justice Scott Bales. Berch had been a justice of the state's highest court since March 2002,when she was appointed to the court by Republican governor Jane Dee Hull. She retired in September 2015.

The decision held that Section 441 of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971,which imposed a limit on contributions an individual can make over a two-year period to all national party and federal candidate committees,is unconstitutional.
