Caribbean Series Most Valuable Player

The Caribbean Series Most Valuable Player is an annual award, given to one outstanding player in the Caribbean Series. Since 1949, it has been awarded by journalists of the countries participating in the tournament.

The Pabellón de la Fama del Caribe was established in 1996 by Juan Francisco Puello Herrera, commissioner of the Confederación de Béisbol del Caribe.

The seventeenth edition of the Caribbean Series was played in 1974. It was held from February 1 through February 6 with the champions teams from Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico, represented by the Tigres del Licey, Venados de Mazatlán and Criollos de Caguas, respectively. This time Venezuela did not participate in the tournament due to a players strike, being replaced by the second place team from the Mexican Pacific League, the Yaquis de Obregón. The format consisted of 12 games, each team facing the other teams twice, and the games were played in Hermosillo, Sonora, to become the first Caribbean Series held in Mexican baseball history.

The Latin American Series was a baseball competition that annually gathers the champions of the professional winter baseball leagues from the countries that are part of the Latin American Professional Baseball Association (ALBP). In the case of Mexico, the representative is the champion of Liga Invernal Veracruzana. Often, teams who qualify for this competition receive loan players from other teams in their respective leagues in order to improve their country's chance of winning.
