Clayton Daniel Mote Jr. is the President Emeritus of the National Academy of Engineering. He served as the president of the NAE from July 2013 to June 2019. He also served as President of the University of Maryland,College Park from September 1998 until August 2010. From 1967 to 1991,Mote was a professor in mechanical engineering at the University of California,Berkeley,and served as Vice Chancellor at Berkeley from 1991 to 1998. Mote is a judge for the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering.

George Paul "Bud" Peterson is the former president of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Peterson is a graduate of Kansas State University,where he earned B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics and an M.S. in Engineering,and Texas A&M University,where he earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. On January 7,2019,Peterson announced his upcoming retirement from Georgia Tech,effective summer of 2019. His successor,Ángel Cabrera,assumed the office September 1,2019,after serving for seven years as president of George Mason University in Fairfax,Virginia. In September 2019,the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to name Peterson President Emeritus and Regents Professor of Mechanical Engineering for the standard three-year term. The Board of Regents also awarded him tenure.

Raymond Morris Bowen is an American academic. He served as the 21st president of Texas A&M University from 1994 until 2002. He served as Interim President of Oklahoma State University (OSU) from 1993 until 1994,and Provost and VP for Academic Affairs at OSU from 1991 until 1993. He was Dean of Engineering at the University of Kentucky from 1983 until 1989. At The University of Kentucky,he also served as Director of the Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Systems and Director of the Center for Applied Energy Research. Bowen was Chair of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University from 1972 until 1977.
