Cedric Delon Smith (born May 27, 1968) is an American former college and professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons during the 1990s. Smith played college football for the University of Florida, and thereafter, he played professionally for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Washington Redskins and Arizona Cardinals of the NFL. Smith was an assistant strength & conditioning coach with the Denver Broncos from 2017 to 2020. He is currently the Head Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He is entering his 15th season as an NFL strength and conditioning coach, Smith has seven years of experience leading the strength and conditioning programs for the Houston Texans (2010–13) and Kansas City Chiefs (2007–09).
Smith was born in Enterprise, Alabama in 1968. [1] He attended Enterprise High School, [2] where he was an honor student and standout running back for the Enterprise Wildcats high school football team.
Smith accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played fullback for coach Galen Hall's Florida Gators football team from 1986 to 1989. [3] He was the primary blocking back for featured tailback Emmitt Smith in 1987, 1988 and 1989, and was also a team captain as a senior in 1989. [3] Smith was recognized as a Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Honor Roll honoree in 1987, 1988 and 1989, [3] and he graduated with a bachelor's degree in public health in 1990.
The Minnesota Vikings chose Smith in the fifth round (131st pick overall) of the 1990 NFL Draft. [4] He played for the Vikings for a single season in 1990. [5] Smith played for the New Orleans Saints in 1991 [5]
After two seasons out of the NFL, Smith signed with the Washington Redskins and played in twenty games during the 1995 and 1995 seasons. [1] He played his final two NFL seasons for the Arizona Cardinals in 1996 and 1997, appearing in thirty-one games. [1] In his six-season NFL career, Smith played in 72 games, and started 14 of them. [1] He totaled 40 rushes for 100 yards with two touchdowns to go along with 20 receptions for 141 yards and two scores.
Smith is currently the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Dallas Cowboys, having spent the previous four seasons as an assistant with the Denver Broncos, three seasons directing the Kansas City Chiefs and four seasons directing the Houston Texans as head strength and conditioning coach. [6] [7] Smith was recognized as the NFL Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the league’s strength and conditioning coaches in 2012. [8]
Daniel Carl Wuerffel is an American former football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Florida Gators, where he was a prolific passer under head coach Steve Spurrier. Wuerffel led the NCAA in touchdown passes in 1995 and 1996 and set numerous school and conference records during his career. During his senior year in 1996, he won the Heisman Trophy while leading the Gators to their first national championship. In 2013, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Rex Daniel Grossman III is an American former football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons, most notably with the Chicago Bears. Grossman played college football for the Florida Gators, where he was named AP College Football Player of the Year and won the 2002 Orange Bowl as a sophomore. William Curtis Carr III was an American college football player, coach, and athletics administrator. Carr was born in Gainesville, Florida, raised in Pensacola, Florida, and attended the University of Florida, where he was an All-American center for the Florida Gators football team in the mid-1960s. He was selected in the 4th round of the 1967 NFL/AFL Draft but first had to serve two years in the United States Army, after which he did not make a regular season NFL roster. Carr returned to UF as graduate assistant and assistant coach under head coach Doug Dickey in 1972 and, after earning his master's degree, joined the school's athletic administration in 1975. He became Florida's athletic director in 1979 at the age of 33, making him the youngest athletic director at a major university at the time. As head of UF's Athletic Association, Carr oversaw the construction of the Stephen C. O'Connell Center and a major addition to Florida Field while also presiding over major NCAA rules violations in the football program.
