Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station (CMSFS) is located on Cheyenne Mountain on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in unincorporated El Paso County, Colorado, next to Colorado Springs, The Cheyenne Mountain Complex, an underground facility on Cheyenne Mountain SFS, was first built for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Combat Operations Center, though NORAD moved day-to-day operations to its headquarters on Peterson AFB in 2006. However, day-to-day operations were moved back in 2011 after a major overhaul and renovation. The location now supports U.S. Space Command's Missile Warning Center, other strategic warning and survivable capabilities, and provides a ready alternative operating location for NORAD's command center.

The vice chief of space operations (VCSO) is an office held by a four-star general in the United States Space Force. The vice chief directly supports the chief of space operations (CSO) by serving as a member of the Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) and also operates with the full authority of the chief of space operations during the CSO’s absence. The VCSO is nominated for appointment by the president and confirmed by the Senate. The VCSO is the second-highest position in the U.S. Space Force, equivalent to other services' vice chief positions. The current vice chief of space operations is General David D. Thompson.
William G. Holt II is a United States Air Force major general who serves as the vice commander of the Air University since May 24, 2021. He most recently served as the director for operations, training, and force development of the United States Space Command. Previously, he was the director of the joint space operations development for the same combatant command. He also served as the special assistant to the commander of the Air Force Special Operations Command. In February 2021, he was assigned to replace Major General Brad M. Sullivan as vice commander of the Air University.

He served in various operational and staff assignments at the squadron, wing, center, major command, Combat Support Agency, and joint levels while on active duty and as a member of the Air National Guard and United States Air Force Reserve. Deployments include Venezuela as part of a cooperative Combat Search and Rescue training effort and Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, in support of Operation Northern Watch. In the wake of 9/11, the general was assigned to the Joint Staff to direct targeting and battle damage assessment activities during Operation Enduring Freedom.
