David Dale Leeper (born October 30,1959) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played professionally for the Kansas City Royals of the Major League Baseball(MLB).
Leeper was born in Santa Ana,California and graduated from Villa Park High School in Villa Park,California. He played college baseball at the University of Southern California. [1]
He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1st round (23rd pick) of the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft. [2] He played parts of two seasons in the majors for the Kansas City Royals in the 1984 season and the 1985 season. He managed three hits in 40 at bats.

He also managed the California Angels in 1992. Wathan is notable for setting the single-season stolen base record for catchers in 1982 when,he stole 36 bases to break the previous record set by Ray Schalk in 1916.

He never appeared in more than 84 games in any season during his playing career. Major League Baseball officials decided to split the season,and the division winners of both halves would advance to the playoffs. The Royals were 20–30 and in fifth place in the American League West when the strike began,but won the second half with a 30–23 mark. Dick Howser replaced Jim Frey as manager on August 31. Kansas City's overall 50-53 record made the Royals the first team in MLB history to reach the postseason with a losing mark. Kansas City lost to the first half American League West winner Oakland Athletics 3–0 in the ALDS.
