Dennis Velez is a United States Navy rear admiral and surface warfare officer who has served as the director of plans and policy of United States Cyber Command since June 2023. [1] [2] He most recently served as the commander of Carrier Strike Group 10 from April 2022 to May 2023. [3] [4] [5] He previously served as the commander of Navy Recruiting Command from April 2020 to March 2022, [6] [7] and as the senior military assistant to the 76th United States Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer, with tours as commanding officer of the USS San Jacinto (CG-56) and USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62). [8] [9]

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and raised in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, Velez graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He earned a master's degree in Information Technology Management. Also has a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from Touro College.

In February 2023, he was nominated for promotion to rear admiral. [10]

In 2021 Dennis Velez was inducted to the Puerto Rico Veterans Hall of Fame. [11]

The United States Fleet Forces Command (USFF) is a service component command of the United States Navy that provides naval forces to a wide variety of U.S. forces. The naval resources may be allocated to Combatant Commanders such as United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) under the authority of the Secretary of Defense. Commander, Carrier Strike Group 8, abbreviated as CCSG-8 or COMCARSTRKGRU 8, is one of five U.S. Navy carrier strike groups currently assigned to the United States Fleet Forces Command. As of 2018 the group flagship is the Nimitz-class aircraft carrierUSS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). As of 2021, the other units of the group are the guided-missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG-56), Carrier Air Wing One, the ships of Destroyer Squadron 28 as well as the Royal Norwegian Navy's frigate HNoMS Fridtjof Nansen (F310), which joined the strike group for one deployment.
